This is my post on #freewriters2862 #dailyprompt edge of the town hosted by @marinnewest's. At the edge of the town stood an old, forgotten house, half-covered in ivy and whispers of the past. Few dared to wander that way, for stories claimed it held secrets no one could explain. Yet, every evening, a thin stream of smoke curled from its crooked chimney, hinting that someone still lived there. Maya, a curious teenager, could not resist the mystery. One twilight, she followed the narrow path through tall grass until she reached the creaking wooden gate. The air felt different—quiet, yet heavy with expectation. As she stepped closer, she saw a man sitting on the porch, sketching in a worn notebook. He looked up and smiled kindly, shattering her fear. “I’ve been waiting for someone brave enough to come,” he said. His voice carried both warmth and loneliness. Inside, the house wasn’t haunted but filled with paintings of the town—its river, its market, its people—all drawn in vibrant detail. Maya realized he was the town’s forgotten artist, living in silence on its edge. From that day, she visited often, carrying stories and laughter. Slowly, the house at the edge of the town became less of a mystery and more of a place where new stories began.
