This is my post on #freewriters2894 #dailyprompt abolish democracy hosted by @marinnewest's. In the sweltering heat of Lagos, 2047, whispers of discontent had grown into a roar. President Adebayo, once a beacon of hope, watched from his fortified palace as protests engulfed the streets. Democracy, he mused, had become a chaotic farce—corrupt elections rigged by foreign tech giants, tribal divisions fracturing the nation, and endless gridlock in the National Assembly. "Nigeria needs strength, not votes," he declared to his inner circle. The plan unfolded swiftly. Under the guise of a national emergency—a fabricated cyber attack blamed on separatists—Adebayo invoked Article 305 of the Constitution, suspending parliament. Military loyalists, handpicked from the northern ranks, stormed key institutions. In Abuja, tanks rolled through Eagle Square, dispersing crowds with tear gas and rubber bullets. The media, already muzzled by draconian laws, broadcasted only state-approved narratives: "Unity through order." Opposition leaders vanished into the shadows of secret prisons. Eminent voices like activist Chioma Okoro rallied underground, smuggling messages via encrypted drones. "This is not reform; it's tyranny!" her manifesto read. But the masses, weary of poverty and inflation, were divided. Some hailed Adebayo as a savior, promising economic revival through centralized control—nationalizing oil fields, enforcing one-party rule. By year's end, democracy was officially abolished. A new "Eternal Republic" emerged, with Adebayo as Supreme Leader. Skyscrapers rose in Lagos, powered by Chinese alliances, but freedoms withered. In quiet villages, elders mourned the lost ballot, wondering if the price of stability was worth the chains. Nigeria stood united, but at what cost?
