Edikan was a curious nine-year-old boy in grade 4 at Sunshine Elementary School. With his messy black hair and a backpack full of rocks and leaves, he was always exploring. His teacher, Mrs. Okon, called him the class scientist because he asked questions like, "Why do ants march in lines?" or "How do clouds make rain?"
One sunny afternoon, during recess, Edikan spotted something shiny in the school garden. It was a small, green beetle with golden spots, crawling on a leaf. "Wow!" he whispered, pulling out his magnifying glass from his pocket. He had saved up his allowance to buy it. The beetle's wings shimmered like tiny jewels. Edikan remembered reading about insects in his science book, but this one looked special.
He decided to learn more. After school, he rushed home to his family's small house in the village. His little sister, Aisha, tagged along, giggling. "What did you find, Edi?" she asked. Edikan showed her the beetle he had gently placed in a jar with holes for air. "It's a ladybug, but different!" he said excitedly.
At dinner, Edikan told his parents about it. His dad, a farmer, smiled. "Nature is full of wonders, son. Study it well." That night, Edikan drew pictures of the beetle and wrote notes: "It eats aphids to protect plants." The next day, he shared his discovery in class. Mrs. Okon was impressed. "Edikan, you've taught us something new!"
From then on, Edikan started a "Discovery Club" with his friends. They explored the garden every week, finding worms, flowers, and even a bird's nest. Edikan learned that asking questions led to amazing adventures. And in grade 4, he felt like the world's greatest explorer.
