This is my post on #freewriters2896 #dailyprompt what an embarrassment hosted by @marinnewest's. In the lively core of Uyo, amid the aroma of sizzling akara and the buzz of haggling traders, Granny Ekaette and her granddaughter Emem set out for their routine market outing. Granny, a feisty 75-year-old draped in vibrant ankara and a wide-brimmed hat, gripped her raffia bag firmly. Emem, a spirited 20-year-old college student, followed closely, her smartphone pinging with alerts. "Emem, take these," Granny ordered, passing a cluster of yams as they wove through the thronged Ibom Plaza. Emem agreed, her gaze darting to deals on jewelry. Granny bargained sharply with a vegetable merchant, her tone sharp as a blade. "Eight hundred naira? What a disgrace! Do I look like a foreigner?" The vendor grinned, but Granny pressed on. Noticing a dapper gentleman in a tailored outfit nearby, she assumed he was the seller's assistant. "Young man, aid your boss! Haul these for me!" she demanded, shoving the veggies toward him. He pivoted, stunned—it was the neighborhood councilor, en route to a session. Emem's face paled in shock. "Granny, wait! That's not—" The damage was done. The bundle tumbled, scattering greens across his pristine loafers. The crowd burst into guffaws, shoppers cheering and jeering. Granny halted, her hat askew. "Good heavens! What a humiliation!" she cried, her face reddening in the heat. The councilor, amiably composed, laughed it off. "All good, Elder. We all have off days." Emem rushed to express regret, assisting with the mess. As they scampered back, Granny exhaled. "Existence is riddled with mishaps, my dear. Yet we persevere, right?" Emem grinned, entwining their arms. "Absolutely, Granny. And craft memorable anecdotes." In Uyo's embracing warmth, mortification bloomed into connection, a yarn to spin endlessly.
