This is my post on #freewriters2843 #dailyprompt my latest mutation hosted by @marinnewest's. In the quiet of my lab, under flickering neon, I discovered my latest mutation. It wasn't planned—just a rogue gene splice gone wild during a late-night experiment. My skin began to shimmer, faint bioluminescent veins pulsing beneath. By dawn, I could control it, dimming or glowing on command. I called it Lumora. The first test was exhilarating. I slipped into the city’s underbelly, a living lantern in the dark alleys. Shadows fled as I glowed, revealing hidden graffiti and startled eyes. But Lumora wasn’t just light—it hummed with energy. A touch could spark electronics or soothe a frayed nerve. I helped a street vendor restart his glitching cart, earning a grateful nod. Yet, the mutation had a cost. My body craved rare minerals, draining my stamina without them. I scavenged for weeks, learning to balance the glow’s intensity. One night, I lit up an abandoned warehouse, saving a kid from a gang. Word spread. Now, I’m a beacon for the lost, but hunted by those who’d exploit Lumora. I’m no hero—just a scientist with a glitch. But in this city of shadows, my light’s making a difference, one pulse at a time.
