This is my post on #freewriters2876 #dailyprompt ostracize the ostrich hosted by @marinnewest's. In the vibrant savanna, Ozzie the ostrich was an oddity. His feathers were a dazzling mix of crimson and gold, unlike the usual dusty brown of his flock. While other ostriches grazed quietly, Ozzie loved to dance, twirling and kicking up clouds of dust. The flock, led by stern Elder Beak, disapproved. “You’re too loud, too bright,” Beak squawked. “You’ll attract predators!” Shunned, Ozzie was banished to the savanna’s edge. The other ostriches whispered, “He’s not one of us.” Heartbroken, Ozzie wandered alone, his vibrant feathers dulled by loneliness. One night, a lioness prowled near the flock’s nesting ground. The ostriches froze, their brown feathers blending into the dark. But the lioness’s eyes gleamed, locked on the nests. From the shadows, Ozzie saw the danger. His bright feathers, once a curse, became his weapon. He burst forth, dancing wildly, his crimson and gold plumage glowing under the moon. The lioness, startled by the dazzling display, fled in confusion. The flock, safe but shaken, watched in awe. Elder Beak approached Ozzie, head bowed. “Your difference saved us,” he admitted. The flock, once cruel, now embraced Ozzie, begging him to teach them his dance. Ozzie forgave them, his heart soaring. From that day, the savanna echoed with the flock’s new rhythm, led by Ozzie’s vibrant steps. No longer ostracized, he became their hero, proving that what sets you apart can also bring you together.
