Keep Portland Weird
Keep Portland Weird

We took a road trip to Oregon for Memorial Day weekend. We spent time in Portland, Hillsboro, and Vancouver, Washington.

"Keep Portland Weird" is a popular slogan of the City. I took this photo of the words written on a building (Dante's) across the street from the famous Voodoo Donuts shop.

This was my first time visiting Portland as an adult. One of my biggest surprises was the size of land that Portland covers. I never realized that the City spreads out over such a large area. Because of this, we saw a great diversity of sights from big city and urban areas of downtown to the small-town feeling of Saint Johns and other surrounding areas.

St. Johns Bridge

We drove across the St. Johns Bridge many times over the weekend. It's a beautiful bridge with nice views while driving. Unfortunately, I didn't get any good photos from on top. There are many bridges in the area to cross the Willamette River and the Columbia River. This bridge crosses over the Willamette River.

Pioneer Place Downtown

We spent time in the Downtown area, specifically Pioneer Place and Old Town. We went to Glowing Greens to play mini-golf. They also have escape rooms and axe throwing here.

Inside glowing greens. They have black lights and most everything glows. If you couldn't already tell, the place is pirate-themed. The course was challenging and there were not many spots where you could score a hole-in-one. Our group had a good time. We were able to walk in and play without a reservation.

We went to see a movie, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning at Regal Pioneer Place. The building had four floors and I like this view of the inside. The domed ceiling appears to be glass and allows a lot of sunlight into the building.

This was our view at street level after leaving the cinema. It has a beautiful ambiance with the lights around the trees.

On the drive back, we saw this building which caught my eye. We don't have a lot of architecture or brick buildings like this where we live.

I like the symmetrical view of this building.

World-Famous Donuts

Of course, we wanted to visit the world-famous Voodoo Donuts before leaving Portland. Even at 8:30 pm they had a long line of customers waiting to buy donuts.

Although the line was long, it moved quickly and it only took us 15 minutes to get through the line and get our donuts. I'll probably make another post to show more of this location and the donuts we got. I don't want to post a lot of duplicate photos so I'll save the others for an upcoming post. (Update: here is my post Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland Oregon).

More to Come

We also had enjoyable visits to Hillsboro and Vancouver, which I mentioned at the start of this post. I'll share some photos and experiences from those areas in my upcoming posts.
