Namaste to all garden and nature lovers!
Just a few days ago, I made another attempt to germinate sunflower seeds and almonds. If you are my regular follower, then you will know that I have tried to grow almonds earlier as well. This time, sunflower seeds were also included in the attempt. And the main reason for trying again this time after the last failed attempt is that I like to grow my plants from seeds, so I will not feel at peace till I do this. And I made this attempt at this time of the year because I read somewhere that during monsoon season, when most of the time it is rainy and cloudy and the humidity is at its peak, the seeds naturally get the perfect atmosphere to germinate.
So a few days ago, I kept 2 sunflower seeds in a container for germination with the wet paper technique, and I kept them in a corner of the kitchen slab and forgot about them. Then, after 3-4 days, my wife found those containers and she taunted me by calling me a SQUIRREL. LOL! In case you don't know, let me tell you that squirrels usually bury seeds in the ground to save for later. Many of these seeds are forgotten by the squirrels, and when conditions are favourable, the seeds germinate and become trees. So by calling me a squirrel, my wife was indirectly taunting me because I had also kept the seeds and forgotten about them. But anyway, those seeds had germinated, but perhaps they had withered due to lack of water, and then even after many attempts, they did not stand up. So a week ago, I once again kept almonds along with sunflower seeds for germination with the same wet paper technique.
And thankfully, this time, instead of forgetting again, I kept an eye on them every day and also took photos of their growth!
The photo above is just one day of growth, and the photo below is of the third day. This is wonderful! I have never seen a seed germinating so fast before. It seems as if this seed was waiting for this season only. Sadly, there has been no growth in the almond to date. I don't know what else it needs. I have tried to grow almonds twice before and will continue to do so until I succeed. ✌️
This is the photo of the fifth day. Things started going wrong from here, probably because there was some darkness on the corners of the seed leaves. When I looked closely, it seemed as if some insect had got into it, but since the container was packed, there was no question of insects. But anyway, I packed them back and waited for another day.
But these sprouts, which were growing so rapidly till now, suddenly stopped growing. I don't know what happened, but even after a whole day, there was no change in their growth, so I thought that maybe now was the time to sow them in the soil. Generally, after germination, the plant is not planted in the soil until true leaves appear, but since they were not growing even like that, I thought that maybe they would be able to grow better in the soil, but I was wrong.
But this is not the end of the story, because John Lennon said, 'Everything will be okay in the end, if it's not okay it's not the end.' The same will happen here, too. I just need to read a little more about growing it. Maybe the seeds got infected somehow due to opening the container repeatedly, or there is some other problem. Next time I will sow it directly in the pot and will meet you with the real sunflowers!🪴
