Before a parent makes a promise to their children they need to have absolute assurance of being able to fulfill the promise. If possible, it is best not to make the promise at all. That way, if we are not able to do that which we plan to do we are easily left off the hook. But if we make a promise and don't fulfill it, it questions our ability to keep our word. ‎ ‎This is more critical with children. It is a shame when a child places so much faith in the parent only for the parent to let the child down. It is totally okay to let the child know that you are only human and not perfect. Sometimes as humans we can have things all planned out but at the end something may come up along the way that would not make it possible for that thing to go as planned. Things just happen that are not even our fault. ‎ ‎It is understandable as parents to want to impress their children. But then, making promises is not the only way to achieve this. It can also be accomplished through surprises. The end result the parent should strive to see is that the child ends up being happy. It is of no use making a promise and at the end the child wasn't happy because what was promised was not fulfilled. The means always justifies the end. ‎ ‎The first set of people children place their hope in is their parents. Parents shouldn't be too quick to make promises, especially to their children. No matter the situation they shouldn't be under pressure to make promises they are uncertain of keeping. ‎ ‎
