The Word of God brought to our notice that the devil is set out to steal, kill and destroy. He's never up to anything good. The same way he was going to and fro that later made him to pay a visit to Job is the same way he's still roaming around across the face of the earth seeking whom to devour. This is the reason why he mobilizes his cohorts against the children of God.
The devil is so merciless with his attacks that his doesn't just attack our physical bodies. He goes for the spirit and soul as well. God is aware of this scheme of the devil and that is why when the devil sought to harm Job God have him a warning not to touch Job's spirit. Now coming to the soul, the way the devil attacks the soul is by placing doubts in our minds. When this doubts mature they bring about strongholds.
If we don't resist the devil, it is possible for us to turn victims of his wicked schemes. When we notice things that are not in accordance with the Word of God, such as doubts and fears, we should resist them because it is a clear indication that the devil is trying to plant these into our souls. As christians is not everything that we accept and let digest into our soul.
Just as we should be mindful of the kind of food we consume as humans we should also be mindful of the things we let enter our soul. We go along way in resisting the devil when we flood our minds with the word of God.

Those who arm themselves with the word of God make themselves unsusceptible to the attacks of the enemy.
