Power supply is one the things I normally look out whenever I am moving into a new place. It's the reason why I didn't think twice moving into the hostel when I got admission into the university. Aside from the advantage of the hostel being in the school premises and the proximity between the classroom and the hostel block, it also had constant supply. This was not the same with lodges out the school premises.
The light was as constant as it could be. My phone percentage hardly got to a critical level. We didn't even border getting a gas cooker to use to cook because of the constant power supply, so instead we just purchased hot plates which saved us a lot of money from having to fill a gas cylinder had it been that was what we went for.
Sure, there were occasions the light went off, sometimes a few hours, sometimes days even, but this occured only a few times and mostly when the light had some glitches. But when the light came back on we can be assured that it came to stay, and everyone was happy once again. The downside, however, was the environment we resided. It was just really messy. One passing by a distance can perceive the odour oozing from the hostel.
At first we were managing to cope with it. But as the years grew by, it became unbearable. Some of my friends began to fall ill frequently and it was obviously as a result of the condition of that environment. At that point we began to consider renting a lodge outside the school premises. So I and two of my friends went in search of a lodge. As we entered the lodges we noticed the difference in the environment from that of the hostel. We finally agreed on one to rent a move in.
The lodge seemed more convenient and decent for humans to live in. Also, it was quite peaceful unlike the hostel that was like a wild house. But the lodge had one thing the hostel did not have; constant power supply. They say you don't know what you got until it's gone, at this point we couldn't relate perfectly to that statement.
For the first time in school I saw myself going to shops to see where I can charge my phone. Sometimes it even led to taking it to centres where they charge phones and other gadgets. We started to learn how to hope on God for power to come on. But for those who had money to afford a generator didn't feel it much. I was having a tough time getting used to this. But I guess this was a worthy price we had to pay for the sake of our hygiene.
