The stress of afflictions and lack of peace makes life uneasy. But we do hope for rest. We hope that one day we shall be free from the labours and struggles that we have seen ourselves in while we are in this world. It is the desire for rest that is making many people to indulge in ungodly practices. They think that they can find themselves peace and rest by using crooked means. It cannot work that way. Our hope of rest from all our labours in life is only in Jesus Christ.
Sabbath was commanded by God to the Israelites as a day of rest. God gave them one day in the week to rest. On the Sabbath day there was no work done. It was altogether observed as a day of rest. This was the Sabbath of the law of Moses. But the Israelites didn't actually have the rest which they desired. They were in pain and agony. What was the burden which they were carrying? That was the burden of sin. The load of sin gives a man afflictions and sorrows. Such sorrows and afflictions cannot depart by observing the seventh day sabbath.
To have rest and peace which is true, we must turn away from our sins and follow the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior who brings us a perfect rest. True sabbath is in knowing the Lord Jesus Christ and following His commandments.
