My last article was about The Land of a Thousand Rainbows, and now we’re shifting focus to something even more water drops per centimeter square. What truly sets Iceland apart is its waterfalls. If you dream of seeing breathtaking cascades throughout your entire trip, Iceland is the place to be!
I knew I was traveling to a country with an endless number of waterfalls, but seeing it with my own eyes was something else—witnessing 4 to 10 waterfalls cascading down almost every mountain was absolutely breathtaking. Most of them only appear after heavy rain because the landscape consists of lava fields with no vegetation to absorb the water, so it simply flows down the rocks. And trust me, you’ll experience plenty of rain here. If you’re planning a trip, I highly recommend bringing waterproof gear—or at least trying to. The chances of encountering rain? About 99.999%.
What I enjoyed the most was discovering new waterfalls. Of course, I wanted to see the famous ones where you often have to wait in line, but I loved looking around and finding unique waterfalls where no one else stopped. I appreciate both small, delicate cascades and towering 70-meter drops. The sheer variety of waterfalls in Iceland is truly unique—there’s something for everyone.
Iceland is home to more than 10,000 waterfalls, so you’d need countless trips to see them all. Some waterfalls disappear while new ones are formed, yet each remains unique. If you love nature, you’ll constantly feel the urge to discover something new.
What fascinates me about waterfalls is the raw power of water, always finding its way. The thunderous roar as it crashes against the rocks, shattering into millions of tiny droplets, enveloping you in its fresh mist—it's mesmerizing. I love just sitting nearby, watching, and taking it all in.
There are still so many places in Iceland I haven’t explored yet, which is why I’m heading back in mid-2025. I hope to capture even more breathtaking moments on my next trip.
One last question—would anyone be interested in tips on where to go in western Iceland? Let me know!
