The Breathtaking Nani lake

In today's blog I will take you to the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, which is divine and words are not enough to express it's beauty. This time I guess I jumped the gun as you can see in the pictures, its still raining here. Monsoon is not over but I couldn't hold back my excitement to travel and to share amazing content with you guys.

Today we are here, precisely at Nani lake at Nainital. I travel here with my friend @parvkhuller cause with friends it's fun. I travel here all the way from Chandigarh and believe me reaching here was not a cake walk. It took us almost 11 hours to be hear, as Nainital is a hilly area with sharp turns, making it difficult for the volvo buses to reach here and cause of this specific reason at the end of the journey when we reached at Haldwani we switched to cabs which were quite comfortable and clean and arranged by them. The distance between Haldwani and Nainital is around 45 km and it was a beautiful drive, I belong to Himalayas myself but never went on road this exquisite and breathing. So natural my expectations to Nainital became high and I couldn't wait to reach there.

After a long drive of an hour the cab left us at the main bus stand of Nainital. Well well well, if you have travelled locally then you know how a bus stand looks like, usually crowded with lots of shops around and people roaming here and there, searching for buses and running as fast as they can but it's not the case here, at Nainital the first thing that I came to know was this beautiful lake in front of me near the bus stand, I couldn't believe myself that it is just a normal bus stand and not a tourist spot. Picture I said above shows the bus stand area it has lots of buildings at one and and on the other side there was this beautiful lake that I have shared in the picture below.

IMG-20250831-WA0011.jpg

I went there last month during the peak monsoon period and in pictures you can say it was still raining. Travelling during monsoon has its own pros and cons and if you are comfortable in rain you enjoy it then I guess it's the best period for travelling but I suggest not to travel in hilly areas if you are not familiar with the situations and the region. As I belong to the Himalayas so I wasn't afraid and I know exactly how monsoon feels at mountains. The lake was so huge and it was looking amazing, so I decided to go near it to examine it better.

IMG-20250831-WA0009.jpg

To my surprise I found this Lake full of fish and I kept thinking why so many fish? Then suddenly and old uncle came came near us to pitch his cab services, where you can travel for a whole day without worrying for only Rs. 1000. Well the deal was great and it also takes you to 6 spots from where whole Nainital can be seen easily.

Guess what we did? We agreed and took this chance to explore Nainital. Also I asked him why there are so many fishes in this Lake cause it's not common to spot fishes on lake where you do boating.

IMG-20250831-WA0010.jpg

He replied by sayings, people hear respect the mother nature and take care of it so it is strictly prohibited by the government to use motor boats here, we use manual boats that it does not affect the water as well as life there.

I loved that being a tourist spot or a famous tourist destination the people of Nainital take very good care of nature and the government also made somewhere important rule by keeping the mother nature in mind. Is a great initiative and I totally respect it.

IMG-20250831-WA0017.jpg

So this was a cab for today it is an Alto car which is a very common in Himalayas and the first part they took us was 5 km away from the main bus stand and they said it's a place from where you can see the broad view of Nainital and you can also feel the cold breeze here.

IMG-20250831-WA0016.jpg

So this was the spot and it was covered with a huge rock on one end and at the other there was a beautiful structure made up of award and it was like a rain shelter. From this point you can start to feel the cold breeze and there was a slide gap between these mountains from where the cold Breeze passes. After experience it all we went toward the rain shelter or the beautiful architecture.

IMG-20250831-WA0014.jpg

It was on the edge of the road and there were some stairs that we have to climb in order to reach there. It was not at all hard climb, and after reaching at that top I saw this beautiful rain shelter made up of wood, which was literary amazing.

IMG-20250831-WA0018.jpg

There were two structures one is shown as a male and another one as a female and it has two or three openings in it or the size of the gates were not that huge you need to work carefully while passing them, from inside it was huge, just like mashroom. Haha, I hope you are getting it.

IMG-20250831-WA0021.jpg

This is the beautiful interior work done on it and the picture below shows the view from this spot. I don't know exactly from which would it was made but it was all shiny and hard.

This picture, you can see the word Nainital and I guess the work is still under progress and it wasn't completed back then, but hopefully it looks good after completion.

And here came the interior of the another structure with female at it's top. Design was different but same would was used and the same colour was used I guess they both were shown as a couple so just to make them look familiar everything was similar but there was a slide difference in the interior.

The Unique Rain Shelter

And this picture shows the beautiful architecture of this rain shelter which is unique and equally amazing. I have taken this picture from the road and all the pictures I have shared above are taken by me with my phone's camera.

This was the first spot that I covered after visiting Nainital for the very first time and honestly it didn't disappointed me. I enjoyed the beautiful long drive from Haldwani to Nainital, breathtaking Nani lake and this amazing spot with unique rain shelter and surreal architecture.
