Sunny Sunday in São Paulo, and I took a gringo friend to check out Vila Madalena. Since he's into art, what better spot than Beco do Batman?
I’ve been there many times, and it never disappoints. Art everywhere, craft markets, people from all kinds of tribes, street music, cold craft beer… Vila has a vibe you only understand once you go.
Saw a bunch of awesome pieces, but picked two that really stood out.
The first one was this little bird perched on a hand. Artwork by William Pimentel. I felt the message was strong. Black and white painting with that yellow background that looks like the sun, and the linework was super sharp.
Then we ran into this super floral wall, a collage of a woman’s face with huge flowers. It had a pop art feel mixed with magazine clippings and a serious stare. Visually, it hit hard. This one was right on a corner inside the beco.
After walking around the beco for a while, we wandered the other streets of Vila too, which are also full of art and even graffiti on the ground. To wrap it up, we stopped at Bar Posto 6 for a beer and some food.
Right when we were heading home, driving along Av. Pedroso de Moraes, we came across this giant mural of two Indigenous figures. The golden background was glowing with the sunset light. We stopped at the busy corner and I pulled out my phone just to take a photo. Didn’t find the artist's name, so if anyone knows, let me know!
A random Sunday that turned into a ride full of art and good conversations.
Domingo com spray
Domingão, solzão em SP, e fui levar um amigo gringo pra conhecer a Vila Madalena. Como ele gosta de arte, que tal do Beco do Batman?
Já fui várias vezes, e é o lugar que nunca decepciona: arte pra todo lado, feira de artesanato, galera de tudo que é tribo, música na rua, cerveja artesanal gelada... a Vila tem um clima que só quem já foi entende.
Vários grafites muito legais, mas selecionei dois trampos que achei muito lindo.
Primeiro foi desse passarinho pousado numa mão... arte do artista William Pimentel.
Achei forte a mensagem. A pintura preto e branco com esse fundo amarelo que parece sol e o traço super preciso.
Seguindo o rolê, trombamos com essa parede super floral, com uma colagem de rosto feminino com umas flores enormes, uma pegada pop arte com colagem de revista, e o olhar sério. Visualmente, ficou pesada essa arte bem em uma das esquinas do beco.
Depois de circular bastante ali no Beco, andamos pelas outras ruas da Vila, que também estão cheias de arte e grafite até no chão e pra fechar, paramos no Bar Posto 6 pra tomar uma cerveja e comer.
Na hora de ir embora, já no caminho pela Av. Pedroso de Moraes, nos deparamos com esse mural gigante com dois indígenas. O fundo dourado vibrava com a iluminação do pôr do sol. Paramos na esquina movimentada e saquei celular só pra tirar essa foto. Não achei o nome do artista, mas se alguém souber, comenta aí!
Um domingo meio aleatório que virou um rolê cheio de arte e boas conversas.
