**Hello again, hive book club!**
I hope you are well. Today I come to talk about a book that I read as a teenager and that kept me obsessed at that time. So much so that I looked for all the ways to get them in physical form, that I even had my mum send me to buy them in Spain, because they weren't available in my country at that time.
As a teenager I only read certain genres, for example: epic fantasy, horror, romance and teen drama, although, of these last two genres, several of the stories I didn't finish because they bored me and always seemed the same and I wanted something new and more interesting. And when I read the synopsis of **Perfect Liars** for the first time, on an app called Wattpad, I thought "it's more of the same", but strangely enough, the story always somehow popped up for me, so I took it as a message and decided to read it.
And a few hours after finishing the available chapters of the book in the application I thought "ok, this is really good, what the hell is going on here". And the story completely exceeded my expectations, it wasn't just a teen drama, it was a mix of mystery, suspense, social criticism and a not-so-romantic romance that left me surprised.
The story introduces us to our protagonist **Jude Derry**, a young adult who, thanks to her academic efforts, manages to get into a prestigious and very elite university, called **Tagus**, where only children of politicians, billionaires and in general people of pedigree and good pedigree study. Soon Jude discovers that the university and its members are not as blameless as they seem and everything strange that happens at the university seems to revolve around three brothers, **Aegan, Adrik and Alexandrei Cash**. Literally rich, in-between rich, charming, but dangerous, who seem to be keeping a secret that could cost them their lives.
Of course, Jude is a strong, brave and determined character, but as you start reading, you notice that there is something strange and mysterious about her, whether it be the way she behaves and constantly puts herself in danger, as well as her growing closeness to the Cashes. The book explores the power of lies, deception and manipulation both individually and collectively and how a single bad action can trigger a maelstrom of misfortune.
Soon what seemed to be a story of "romance" and "dangerous attraction" is derailed as you read on and realise that the characters are not just kids living the college life, but that behind their public appearances they hide life-threatening secrets and that Jude is simply not your typical young adult protagonist.
Something I love about this novel is that it was written by a Venezuelan author (who, incidentally, has several books in print), so the 'Venezuelan' touch can be felt in various ways in which Jude expresses herself. It is generally a book of youth drama and suspense, although it also has some very funny moments and romance (although the romance is not the focus of the plot). Rather, it is the mystery surrounding certain characters, as well as the secrets they hide, that drives the desire to find out what is really going on, which motivates not only the author to investigate, but also the protagonist. Of course, one cannot help but pair Jude with one of the brothers, either Aegan or Adrik, who, although they are brothers, are very different, as one embodies manipulation and domination through fear and the other seems like a prince who pretends not to enjoy the chaos. The book also portrays the power, dominance and manipulation that "the powerful" can exhibit and the constant humiliation suffered by those who do not belong to this "circle", so Jude somehow emerges as a figure who criticises this fact and exposes it for what it is, without romanticising anything.
I remember arguing with a friend at school about which of these brothers was better. My favourite was Aegan and hers was Adrik (huge red flags there, ha ha ha). But in the end, it was like nothing, the most normal one there is Alexandrei, ha ha ha. The thing is, literally, not even the protagonist is right in the head, but hey, anything to achieve the objectives.
Anyway, this story is told in two books that are already finished, which tell the story of Jude with the Cash brothers. I think it's a great story, which sometimes makes you angry at the characters' actions. I admit that I got angry several times, but then it made me laugh, get angry again, and sometimes it made me sentimental. But, in conclusion, it's a great story that I think those who like teen dramas will love.

Espero que se encuentren bien. Hoy les vengo a hablar de un libro que leí de adolescente y que me mantuvo obsesionada en ese tiempo. Tanto que busqué todas las formas de obtenerlos en físico, que incluso hice que mi mamá me los mandara a comprar en España, porque en mi país para dicho momento no estaban.
De adolescente yo solo leía ciertos géneros, por ejemplo: Fantasía épica, terror, romance y drama juvenil, aunque, de estos dos últimos géneros, varias de las historias no las terminaba porque me aburrían y siempre se me hacían lo mismo y yo quería algo nuevo y más interesante. Y cuando leí la sinopsis de **perfectos mentirosos** por primera vez, en una aplicación llamada Wattpad, yo pensé “es más de lo mismo”, pero curiosamente siempre, de alguna forma, me aparecía la historia, por lo que, lo tomé como un mensaje y decidí leerlo.
Y unas horas después de acabar con los capítulos disponibles del libro en dicha aplicación pensé “ok, esto es muy bueno, qué rayos está pasando aquí”. Y es que la historia superó por completo mis expectativas, y es que no solo era un drama juvenil, era una mezcla de misterio, suspenso, crítica social y un romance no tan romance que me dejó sorprendida.
La historia nos presenta a nuestra protagonista **Jude Derry**, una joven adulta que, gracias a sus esfuerzos académicos, logra entrar en una prestigiosa y muy elitista universidad, de nombre **Tagus**, dónde solo estudian hijos de políticos, multimillonarios y en general gente de abolengo y buen pedigrí. Pronto Jude, descubre que dicha universidad y quienes la integran, no son tan intachables como parece y todo lo raro que sucede en la universidad parece girar alrededor de tres hermanos, **Aegan, Adrik y Alexandrei Cash**. Literalmente ricos, entre ricos, encantadores, pero peligrosos, que parecen guardar un secreto que podría costarles la vida.
Por supuesto, Jude es un personaje fuerte, valiente y decidida, pero que al empezar a leer, notas que hay algo raro y misterioso en torno a ella, ya sea la forma en la que se comporta y constantemente se pone en peligro, así como su creciente cercanía con los Cash. El libro explora el poder de las mentiras, los engaños y la manipulación tanto individual como colectiva y como una sola acción mala, puede desencadenar una vorágine de desgracias.
Pronto lo que parecía, que sería una historia de “romance” y una “atracción peligrosa” se desbarata al continuar leyendo y darse cuenta, que los personajes no son simples chicos viviendo la vida universitaria, sino que detrás de sus apariencias afables al público, ocultan secretos que ponen en peligro sus vidas y que Jude simplemente, no es la típica protagonista de novela juvenil.
Algo que me encanta de esta novela, es que está escrito por una autora venezolana (quien, por cierto, tiene varios libros en físico), por lo que el toque “venezolano” se siente en varias formas en las que se expresa Jude. Es en general un libro de drama juvenil, suspenso, aunque también tiene momentos muy graciosos y romance (aunque el romance no es el centro de la trama) es más bien, el misterio que rodea a ciertos personajes, así como los secretos que ocultan, es el deseo de saber en realidad que está pasando, lo que no solo mueve al autor a averiguar, sino también a la protagonista. Aunque, por supuesto, uno no puede evitar emparejar a Jude con alguno de los hermanos, ya sea Aegan o Adrik, que, aunque son hermanos, son muy diferentes, pues uno encarna la manipulación y la dominación a través del miedo y el otro parece un príncipe que finge que no se divierte en el caos. El libro también retrata el poder, el dominio y la manipulación que pueden exhibir “los poderosos” y la constante humillación que sufren quienes no pertenecen a este “círculo”, por lo que Jude de alguna forma, surge como una figura que critica este hecho y lo exhibe tal cual es, sin romantizar nada.
Me acuerdo de que solía discutir con una amiga en el colegio, cuál de estos hermanos era mejor. Mi favorito era Aegan y el de ella, Adrik (tremendas red flags, teníamos ahí, ja, ja, ja). Pero al final, era como nada, el más normal ahí, es Alexandrei ja, ja, ja. Es que, literal, ni siquiera la protagonista está bien de la cabeza, pero bueno, todo sea para cumplir los objetivos.
En fin, esta historia se cuenta en dos libros ya terminados que cuentan la historia de Jude con los hermanos Cash, me parece una gran historia, que a veces te hace enfurecer por el actuar de los personajes, admito que pase varios corajes, pero que después me hacía reír, volver a enojar y a veces me ponían sentimental. Pero, en conclusión, es una gran historia que creo, que a quienes les gustan los dramas juveniles les va a encantar.
