It was a beautiful Saturday morning, the weather was really accommodating and the sun wasn't scorchy,the sound of my mothers prayer in the living room woke me up, but I still laid on the bed listening to every words of her prayers, saying a silent Amen to her blessings.
I stretched my right hand to the side of the bed to grab my phone , checked the time and it was past 8:00am, I went through my phone and finally called my childhood neighbor and Aunty, I call her Aunty Rose, a beautiful lady, she was like a second mother to me, even a blind person can tell she loved me so much.
This is the first time I would be seeing her after 8years and all I could remember was the beautiful memories I had with her as a teenager, the kind words she said to me, the way she constantly reminded me of how beautiful I look and the way she advices me to stay away from the male gender.
She would always say to me, "Favour, men will destroy your future, finish your education before having a boyfriend "
I can imagine the look on her face, when I tell her I had a boyfriend, even before finishing university.
I finally stood up from the bed, dialed her number and called her;
Favour : Hello Aunty, Good Morning
Aunty Rose : Madam, how are you?
Favour : I'm fine Aunty
Aunty Rose : Are you at my gate already ?
Favour : No, I'm inside your house, look at your back (jokingly).
Aunty Rose : Bye joor(laughing).
We both laughed and I told her I was preparing to leave the house , in no time I took my bath, dressed up , took a lovely selfie and sent to her.
And she asked, Madam I hope you have transportation money.
I replied saying, Aunty I'm now a big girl, preparing for NYSC, transportation isn't my problem.
She hailed me and called me Madam as usual.
In no time, I was out of the house, branched a mini market and bought her favourite fruits, I bought enough avocado pearls , because that's her favorite fruit.
My journey to her house was faster than I expected, so in less than two hours, I was at her gate and this was where the my unforgettable memory begun.
I knocked on her gate three times; knock knock knock, the sound echoed loud , that her close neighbors thought it was their gate.
She knew I was the one, because I have an habit of knocking loud, especially when I'm happy.
She shouted, from her room; Favour bring down my gate ooh, I laughed loud, because I couldn't wait to hug her like old times.
Immediately, she opened the gate, we screamed and ran into each other with so much excitement and happiness.
Favour, you are now a big girl ooh , see my beautiful babygirl is now a woman,she said loud.
At the point I got really shy, maybe I was blushing too .
We went inside the house, I was yet to take a seat , when she said, we are going out Madam.
I asked ; to where Aunty?
She said, plenty places, I hope you brought extra clothes, because you are sleeping over.
We were walking to her car, when she insisted we take pictures, which we did, the pictures were so beautiful and everyone could tell that we missed and love each other.
She kept on introducing me to her neighbors, as her daughter, who just finished university.
We have similar facial features, same complexion, so everyone believed I was her daughter.
She already had our day planned, the first place on her list was beauty spa, and I love special treatments .
While we were driving, she turned to me and said;
So, who is our boyfriend?
I was so shy, and then she said, you are not a child, don't lie to me Madam.
I replied, we just broke up.
She laughed loud, and said loudly in pigin ; so you don chop heartbreak like this .
We both laughed, talked about old time memories, old friends, she played cool music until we got to the spa.
I guess she is long time customer at the spa , so they gave me the best treatment I have ever had in my life.
It was so relaxing.
We fixed our nails, lashes and I bought some skin care products at the shop.
We spent about 3 hours at the spa, took amazing pictures and had deep conversation about life after school, career, marriage choices and relationship.
I finally shared my first heartbreak experience with her and she never judged me.
After the spa experience, we bought meatpie and burger at a close by eatery and she was glad to see that I was still a foodie.
While we were sitting she called my mom and told her how big I was looking , they exchanged pleasantries and she appreciated her for allowing me visit.
She was doubting my cooking skills, so we agreed that I would be making lunch, we branched the market.
Bought some fresh tomatoes, chicken and fresh peppers.
We arrived home, she gave me a casual dress to wear, before cooking.
We actually cooked together after the argument and doubts about my cooking skills.
During the process of cooking, we burnt our stew.
But it wasn't so bad, we still enjoyed it.
After eating, we saw a movie together, had long and deep conversation.
I wished I could stay with her longer, but I had to go back home, the experience was unforgettable, her word of advice still rings in my ear, the childhood memories she made me remember and the genuine laughter we shared.
We ended the day with a tight hug, I almost cried when my cab arrived to take me home.
Some memories with friends are indeed unforgettable and enjoyable, they stay with us forever.
