The lord is speaking that his house shall be called a place of prayers, it was also prophesied by prophet Jeremiah in the old book, before christ came to earth. Back then they are people who turn the house of God to a den of robbery ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmUV6BUZ7KA5WDmDTts1AuzomkxCD2acgTJFiW6aRiKxqS/1757347280377.jpg) They sold items for sacrifices in the place of prayers, which Jesus spoke against, they are people who turn the house of God to a place of robbery, a place of business too. Even before the lord Jesus stated it, the prophet Jeremiah also said it in the old testament. So in Matthew 21 vs 13, Jesus was quoting a scripture. Jesus was saying to the jew that the house of God is a place of prayers, and not a business place or a place for business transactions, which he referred to as a den of thieves. Jesus condemnd the act of buying and selling in church, because it's a place primarily built for prayers and worship, not business. The major question here is, why is it that particular temple, not a place of prayers anymore? Jesus instructed the disciples that it should be destroyed and shouldn't be place of prayers anymore. The house of God was referred to as a den of thieves, because it was used for business purposes, instead of prayers and worship.
