Prelude Greeting to all, it is coming to mid week and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern. In the past we have been looking at the various sets from rewards to core from Rebellion set, now I want to dive a little into the foundation set that came along not too long ago which were released to help new players get into the game. A significant number of these cards can be obtained through campaign mode and these cards are for you to keep. And what's better is that you can use these earned cards to get more of these cards through playing the frontier mode. But the question comes, are these cards good enough to compete with cards from the main set of Rebellion or Conclave Arcana? Are they even worthy to clear frontier matches daily to level them up?
For me, these cards do have their value in help newcomers to strengthen the collection until they have sufficient DEC/SPS or other methods of injection to purchase main set packs or buy off the market for cards that can elevate their lineup. So this series that I am starting will focus on looking deeper at the foundation card and gather more insights on these cards to see how they can be viable in modern ranked battle.
Foundation Set Cards
Similar to the previous post for this series, we will begin discussing cards from the Foundation Set. Using a similar method when I reviewed cards in previous series, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and if they can synergize with modern cards to aid you in your ranked battles. This time round, assessment and recommendation will be within the card's own paragraph than having a segment on their own, so take note in the structural change in the post.
Chaos Furybringer

Let's begin looking at the foundation card, Chaos Furybringer. This card can be obtained from campaign. First look, the mana requirement is huge at 6 mana and definitely there will be other alternatives at a lower mana cost such as Drybone Hobogoblin at 4 mana. However, there is still value in this card because it is already having 2 damage at level 1. Not a card that you will choose in long run but definitely a strong bruiser right at the start which can give you an uplift. If you only have foundation set at your mercy, this card is a likely starter until you find a replacement for it with reach ability or have other cards that have sneak or opportunity which will suit the lineup better.
Growth potential will just be on the attack part but for mana efficiency, this card likely get subbed out to others that gives better stats or better utility. If you are able to level up this card fast, it will definitely help you win your frontier matches better since foundation Fire Splinter Archon is speed boosting, so this card can strike first and hurt your opponent before they return the favour as this card by itself is already having a very decent speed.
In terms of rating for this card, based on a score of 5, it will get about 2.8 because it is squishy with low health and the big mana is something that hurts real bad and makes selection harder when we do not have a lot of mana to work with.
Frankarsgard

Now we look at another card from Fire splinter, Frankarsgard. From how the looks of it in terms of stat, the armour and high health would tell that this will be the tank for Fire Splinter. In terms of alternatives, such as Drybone Megalodon or even Halfling Refugee that came from Rebellion reward set, of which both options have good synergy already. So for Frankarsgard, it will be a little tough to compete with those options. However, like in similar case as above, this is the only option you have coming out from campaign without other new cards, I think this card still serve its purpose as a nice and decent tank with its thick health. It gains fury ability at level 5 which I think is quite a nice add and helps to hit harder onto opponents are its health got reduced.
Growth potential wise definitely upon hitting level 3, the value of it will increase as it gains a 2nd melee attack. Other than that, the next real key milestone comes when it gains the 2nd armour and the fury ability.
In terms of rating for this card, I rate it slightly better that Chaos Furybringer and will give it a 3.0. Reason is that, it is still a rather decent tank in terms of stats and I like the fury that it gains at max level with the only pity still on the high mana cost which is the case for most foundation cards.
Wrap Up I have seen many foundation cards being used in modern ranked battles and doing well. So definitely these cards will synergize well with other cards to make them viable and help win matches for players to earn more glint as they continue building up their collection. And this is why I wanted to run through all the foundation cards for players to also see what to focus on to strengthen your ranked battle gameplay.
Let's continue to grow and find path in modern as we journey on playing Splinterlands.
