Prelude Good day to all, hope that all of you are having a good week so far and having many memorable and interesting battles in Splinterlands. In my last community engagement challenge post, I mention I struggled to win against Sheng Xiao which is a dragon splinter archon from Conclave Arcana which can give poison burst as a battle tactics.
If you recalled, it was such a difficult match up for me against a lineup with Sheng Xiao which will really make your lineup get chewed up by poison very easily. So far my record against Sheng Xiao is 0%.
But to my surprise, I manage to win one match today against it, so I wanted to run through the match and then share how it even happened.

Selection Analysis We have 3 splinters available for selection - Earth and Dragon only. For me, I would prefer the earth splinter due to the execute that I can get from the Elf bloodline archon.
This time round, I was a little more conservative, instead of having Warborn Chieftain right at the front, I've instead Anyu Huntswoman in its place so that it can survive longer and smash on stuff with a little cover given by Anyu Huntswoman whom have a much faster speed and armour to cushion at least 4 damage to give more sustainability for Warborn Chieftain. And Warborn Chieftain is a card that can dispel buffs that are being applied to opponent cards. This front 2 cards seemingly form a tank setup for me. Next will be Mad Ogre Anarchist, this card will not be foreign to many because it is easily used and can easily fit into many lineups with its opportunity ability and the 2 melee attack. Next is Halaran Huntress also with 2 melee attack but with charge instead of opportunity and it also has flying. Next will be the only card that can use execute as this is the only elf in the lineup and will be critical since only this card will get additional advantage. Last but not least will be a foundation melee card New Beluruc Aegis that has taunt so that damages can go its way while the other cards can do their damage without getting attacks directed at them.
Opponent used Sheng Xiao as archon and leading the lineup is Dread Tafarian which has healing and one of the most used earth splinter card I used in Frontier mode. Grimbardun Fighter which is a really damage soaking tank is being used in 2nd position and followed by 2 foundation cards. The first being Great Bear Druid which has double attack of melee and magic but the melee will not work till it reaches the first position. Next is Vengeful Monk that has 2 damage and opportunity which can take out low health cards. And following it will be Buttercup Mauler, a decent card that strikes for 3 damage at the level my opponent is a with a sneak. Last on my opponent lineup is Endless Ape that gets bigger in health as each fallen card in the lineup.
A very balanced and evenly put up lineup by both me and my opponent, but seeing Sheng Xiao really worries me, as I had experienced numerous times of the poison burst just chewing up my lineup.
So let's get right on to the round by round synopsis.
Round by Round Synopsis
Round 1 - Loads of damage flying towards my Dread Tarafian and it was killed by Thanalorian Blade with the execute while my Anyu Huntswoman still holding strong. And wait, where is the battle tactics? No poison burst? Something is odd but let's continue on.
Round 2 - There were continued exchanges and I saw how Thanalorian Blade went for blood and took out Vengeful Monk. And the remaining barrage continued on Grimbardun Fighter. Unfortunately my taunt card was taken out due to continuous attack from opponent Sneak card.
Round 3 - With all kinds of attacks and Thanalorian Blade on fire, Grimbardun Fighter was taken out while Mad Ogre Anarchist took out opponent's sneak card. But unknowningly, opponent's Endless Ape already at 16 health, a real huge best right now.
Round 4 - Great Bear Druid was cleared out in this round and we are down to facing off with Endless Ape with my whole lineup ready to pounce.
Round 5-6, The attacks keep flying towards Endless Ape and we manage to clear it out by round 6 to get a real lucky victory against a crazy Archon which is really capable of inflicting heavy poison damage.
Battle Summary This is definitely a lucky win because opponent did not even use the battle tactics that is available on Sheng Xian which could have swing the advantage on my opponent to crush my lineup with ease after getting poisoned. Do note that there is only 45 seconds to choose the battle tactics, failure to do so will just leave it as a Archon with whatever base ability it has without any battle tactics. Do not hesitate and let the clock run down on you.
Wrap Up Thank you all for dropping by the post and walking through with me on the sharing on this lucky win and diving into the gameplay that I wanted to share with the community so that everyone improve their gameplay. If you have good strategies on how I can even better my selection, do share with me in the comments.
