Today I will tell you about a hike that my friends and I did to the Stara Planina peak - Ambaritsa.
The peak is one of the highest in the central Stara Planina. Its height is 2167 m. and one of the reasons why I have long wanted to visit it is the small shelter that was built there. The entire shelter is painted in colorful elements that I had only seen in photos and I really wanted to visit it in person.
Our starting point was the Vasil Levski hut, where we spent the night the day before.
My friends and I got up early, had breakfast, and started our hike.
First we walked through the forest.
In places we crossed the river.
We saw unique trees.
We went out to an open meadow where we took a short break.
We were already on an open-air hike, and the views around us were magical. We were still in the Stara Reka reserve and around us were full of herbs that had already dried up but reminded us of their magical presence.
Surprisingly, among the dry plants, I managed to find a few fresh sprigs of Yarrow.
We passed through long stretches covered with Dwarf mountain pine.
We stopped and enjoyed the magnificent views.
We reached a spring with clear water and with great joy we stopped to cool off with the water and fill our bottles.
Not long after, we encountered a herd of wild horses, which we carefully passed by.
The ridge walk was beautiful with eye-catching views.
The vegetation became more and more surprising in color and we found miniature flowers in purple hues.
We reached Ambaritsa Peak.
Now, even from afar, I could see the shelter I had so wanted to see up close.
There were many people at the top, enjoying the beautiful views and the calm and sunny day in the mountains.
Ambaritsa Shelter is located on the Kom – Emine route. It is very small and is a metal building with a door and a small window. It can accommodate up to 4 people. It was installed at the top in 1987.
In September 2019, the metal structure was repaired and renovated by volunteers of the Sofia Mountain Club with the special participation of the horse Borko from the Ambaritsa hut and of course the owners of the hut – Emma and Todor.

Later, they painted the shelter and this is how it looks from all sides.
This is what it looks like from the inside:
We were about to descend from the summit in the direction of Dobrila hut.

We passed the Dobrila hut without stopping because the time was getting longer and we had to catch the lift to the town of Sopot.

The descent down was tiring on the rocky and dusty road.

Down in the town, right when you get off the lift, there is a wonderful pizzeria where they make delicious pizzas.

We happily ate a pizza there, got in the cars and returned home happy and so pleasantly tired.
