This uniquely beautiful waterfall, which I visited recently, is located in the Central Balkan and is truly worth the hike we took to get there.
It is located at about 1400 m above sea level in the Stara Reka Reserve. Karlovsko Praskalo Waterfall is one of the highest waterfalls in Bulgaria.
To get there, we started the hike from the town of Karlovo and followed the route to the Vasil Levski Hut. From the hut there is a path that took us to the waterfall.
The path was full of diverse dense vegetation.
In places the trail became steep and there were built railings to hold on to.
We passed through large ferns.
We jumped over fallen trees.
We found large wood mushrooms.
Some mushrooms were of impressive size and shape.
We admired charming flowers.
The light was scarce not only because of the dense vegetation, but also because we were at that place at the end of the day, close to the hour when the sun would set.
When we reached the waterfall we felt like we were in a fairy tale.
The water flowed gently over the rocks with elegant movements creating a feeling of gentle summer rain.
The pond formed under the rock was crystal clear and the water in it was ice cold.
The waterfall is about 30 meters high and the water stream flows directly, without crossing any obstacles on its way. The time we visited the place was accompanied by a prolonged drought in the area and the waterfall was not very full. But the charming appearance it had with the small waxy streams flowing down the rocks was unique.
Thank you for stopping by!
