Creo que no hay experiencia más bonita que enseñarle a alguien algo que te encanta, que le has dedicado tiempo, esfuerzo y mucho, mucho amor. El día de ayer tuve el honor de mostrarles y hablarles un poco a los estudiantes de nuevo ingreso de mi liceo que se trabaja en mi mención, aclarar todas sus dudas y enamorarlos mucho más de la Construcción Civil.
Desde el inicio fue una actividad completamente práctica, nuestro maestro nos dio una sola instrucción: "Ustedes los auxiliares no harán NADA, los niños son los que deben hacer todo." Lo admito, fue difícil para mí no ayudar a los nenes y de vez en cuando les daba un empujoncito.
Fueron un total de 30 niños distribuidos en 6 grupos los que atendí, di indicaciones y charlamos un rato. Los grupos fueron increíblemente diversos, pero por suerte en cada grupo siempre había un niño/a que quería irse por Construcción Civil. Habían niños mucho más activos, los cuales desde un inicio estaban atentos a la actividad, los pasos a seguir y ayudar a sus compañeros.
La actividad que llevamos a cabo era crear una mezcla de mortero, con unas porciones específicas de cemento, arena y agua; luego hacían la tarea de trazar una línea de la mezcla en el suelo y pegar dos bloques de lado, al final con un nivel burbuja poníamos a prueba qué tan nivelado había quedado.
Era hermoso ver cómo estaban tan emocionados por la práctica y se ponían felices cuando la burbuja marcaba que su pegado de bloques había quedado perfecto. Algo que sí puedo decir de la generación Alpha con la que he tenido contacto directo es que son niños muy activos, con ganas de aprender y muy, muy curiosos. Como Generación Z y "mentora temporal" de estos niños, me alegra haber podido ser yo la que les diera ese impulso de una vez por todas para saber qué querían estudiar.
Algo que me llamó mucho la atención fue notar las diferencias entre mi generación, la Generación Z, y la Generación Alpha. Nosotros, como Z, crecimos adaptándonos a la tecnología, aprendiendo poco a poco a movernos en lo digital. Ellos, en cambio, ya nacieron con una pantalla en la mano; tienen una curiosidad innata y aprenden a una velocidad impresionante. Son más visuales, más directos, y se aburren fácilmente si no hay algo que los rete. Pero también son más abiertos a experimentar, a equivocarse y volver a intentar. Nosotros tal vez somos más reflexivos, más críticos, y eso nos da la oportunidad de guiarlos con empatía. Creo que ahí está la magia: nosotros aportamos la experiencia y el camino recorrido, y ellos nos enseñan nuevas formas de ver el mundo.

I believe there is no more beautiful experience than teaching someone something you love, something to which you have dedicated time, effort, and lots and lots of love. Yesterday, I had the honor of showing and talking a little to the new incoming students at my high school about what we work on in my specialty, answering all their questions, and making them fall even more in love with Civil Construction.
From the start, it was a completely practical activity. Our teacher gave us one instruction: "You assistants will do NOTHING; the kids are the ones who have to do everything." I admit, it was hard for me not to help the kids, and from time to time I gave them a little push.
There were a total of 30 kids divided into 6 groups that I attended, gave instructions to, and chatted with for a while. The groups were incredibly diverse, but luckily in each group, there was always a boy or girl who wanted to pursue Civil Construction. Some kids were much more active, and from the beginning, they were attentive to the activity, the steps to follow, and helped their classmates.
The activity we carried out was to create a mortar mix, using specific portions of cement, sand, and water; then they had the task of tracing a line of the mixture on the ground and placing two blocks side by side. At the end, with a bubble level, we tested how level the blocks were.
It was beautiful to see how excited they were about the practical activity and how happy they got when the bubble showed that their block laying was perfect. One thing I can say about Generation Alpha, with whom I have had direct contact, is that they are very active kids, eager to learn, and very, very curious. As a member of Generation Z and a "temporary mentor" to these kids, I’m glad I could be the one to give them that push to finally know what they want to study.
Something that caught my attention was noticing the differences between my generation, Generation Z, and Generation Alpha. We, as Gen Z, grew up adapting to technology, learning little by little to navigate the digital world. They, on the other hand, were born with a screen in their hands; they have innate curiosity and learn at an impressive speed. They are more visual, more direct, and get bored easily if there isn’t something challenging them. But they are also more open to experimenting, making mistakes, and trying again. We might be more reflective, more critical, and that gives us the opportunity to guide them with empathy. I think that’s the magic: we bring experience and the path traveled, and they teach us new ways of seeing the world.
