Heavy stones press on my frame, Down they push to halt my stir, Slow bleary eyes open to check, The piercing light, enters my sight.

Dawn has come, as it always does, Heralding anew day I must labor, Another that must pass, Yet reluctantly I waver.

The blanket’s caress so sweetly, My mind unclear and befuddled, Pillows beckon to clasp my head, A bed seeks to embrace me full of comfort.

Such urge to sink down to rest came, Yet the voice of my conscience resists, Duty and responsibility, I must answer their call, To awake and leave my sanctuary.

Reasons tells me what I must do, Weighted limbs slowly creak, I know what must be done to start, I rose up weary, my day has begun.
