🕯️ This year, we honored All Souls’ Day a little differently — not in the cemetery, but in the mountains. 🌄
What was meant to be a simple getaway turned into a heartfelt reminder of love, life, and gratitude. đź’›
Join me as I share our family’s All Souls’ Day in the Mountains — a retreat to reflect, reconnect, and remember. 🌿
All Souls’ Day has always held a special place in our hearts. For us Filipinos, it’s not just a day to light candles and visit cemeteries — it’s also a time to come together as a family, to share food, laughter, and stories that keep the memory of our loved ones alive.
This year, instead of going to the cemetery, our family decided to celebrate it a little differently — by spending the day at Rocky Mountain Resort, a peaceful hideaway nestled at the foot of a rugged mountain. It’s less than 30 minutes from our home, but due to the heavy traffic caused by tourists and families traveling back to their provinces, the trip stretched to more than an hour. Still, as soon as we arrived, I knew it was worth every minute.

The resort greeted us with cool mountain air and the gentle rustle of trees. True to its name, it’s surrounded by rocky slopes that give the place a raw, natural charm. Although some parts are still under improvement, the area is already spacious and inviting — perfect for families who want to escape the noise of the city for a while.

There are several cottages to choose from, some equipped with karaoke sets for those who love to sing and have fun while bonding. You can also book private cottages for overnight stays if you wish to extend your getaway and wake up to the tranquil mountain view.

What truly caught my attention was the bar and restaurant. The ambiance was calm and refreshing — a mix of rustic design, soft lighting, and the sound of nature. It was the kind of place where you could sip coffee, look out at the mountain view, and feel your worries fade away. And if you didn’t bring your own food, no problem — you can simply order delicious meals directly from the restaurant.

For the adventurous ones, there’s a trail that leads up the mountain. From the top, you can enjoy a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of the resort — a view that makes you pause, breathe deeply, and feel grateful for life’s quiet blessings. Watching my children laugh and run around freely reminded me how precious these moments are.

Our All Souls’ Day getaway turned out to be more than just a family trip. It became a time to reflect, reconnect, and give thanks — not only for the lives of our departed loved ones but also for the life we continue to live in their memory.

Sometimes, remembering doesn’t have to mean sadness. It can be about celebrating love, life, and the beautiful moments we still get to share.
