When exploring TURON (Banana Lumpia)
TURON is a staple when it comes to Pinoy merienda. Classic turon only requires banana, brown sugar and wrapper, then they have added langka (jackfruit) that became a hit.
Since I wasn’t able to find jackfruit at the supermarket, I have opted using macapuno. While wrapping our turon, I have soaked the banana in a bowl with melted brown sugar which didn’t work well since the wrapper got easily damped with the liquid, not to mention the macapuno sauce.
Brown sugar liquid set aside and we have proceeded using granules. As soon as we finished wrapping the bananas, I have suddenly thought of mixing the macapuno sauce with the melted brown sugar. That being said and done, another idea just popped up and I thought the turon would be amazing with cheese. Unfortunately we only have the cheese spread with pimiento and instead of the classic cheese being added inside the wrapper, I have added 2 tbsp of the cheese spread to the macapuno and brown sugar mixture.
I have tried melting the cheese in the microwave for 2 minutes and it worked, with the consistency being a bit watery, I have put it back inside the microwave for another 2 minutes and that saucy texture and consistency was achieved!
It was an UNEXPECTED SURPRISE! The turon tasted so amazing as we also have cookie chip dough ice cream on the side that made it even special!
