Suara Merdeka Concert For India and Indonesia Independence Day

Hello ASEAN Buddies...  August is a historic month for both India and Indonesia. You know, my country gained independence on August 17th, while India's independence was on August 15th. So, while Indonesians celebrate Independence Day, the Indian diaspora in Indonesia also celebrates theirs on August 15th. So, inevitably, they are celebrating two celebrations at once: the independence of their native country and the independence of the country where they live. |  |  | | ---| ----| In Jakarta, there's an Indian club whose members are all NRIs—Non-Resident Indians—called the India Club. This club frequently holds Indian events, and since I'm also a reporter for Indian entertainment, I cover them. Like this concert titled "Suara Merdeka." This is a concert to celebrate the independence of India and Indonesia. It's a great idea, isn't it?  Since the independence days are only separated by the 16th, the India Club held this concert on August 16th in Gandhi Memorial International School. At this concert, they pampered the members by bringing in singers from India, namely Charu Semwal—winner of Indian Idol Season 3, and also Wika Salim, a dangdut singer who also emerged from a talent search event. |  |  | | ----| ----| >***The guest starts*** The concert opened with the appearance of Wika Salim. To be honest, I just found out that Wika Salim is a dangdut singer. I had often heard that name but I didn't know who he was. From this concert I learned that he is one of the most famous dangdut singers. He sings old songs and viral songs. He sings very well, his voice is also pleasant to listen to. The audience enjoys the sound. He's really entertaining. |  |  | | ---| ---| After Wika Salim's performance, a singer from India, Charu Semwal, appeared. I also just found out about Charu Semwal, as I hadn't been following her, so I didn't know what songs she'd been singing. She's been called one of the winners of Indian Idol. I only knew singers who sing songs from Indian films. It wasn't just the Indian diaspora who danced Bhangra; Indonesians who loved and knew about India also joined in. It was a truly enjoyable evening. Even though I came as a reporter, I enjoyed the concert and the Indian food.
