AI Companies valuation continue to climb as we got an update on the French AI Company: Mistral AI.
Following a $1.5bn investment from a leading semiconductor company ASML, the AI company is now valued around $14bn. This is twice what it was valued the previous year.
This cash is expected to allow the company to develop cutting-edge AI models and data centers independent from its US competitors.
Nevertheless, the company is still smaller than its competitors (OpenAI, Anthropic).
- Anthropic last week closed a $13 billion funding round at a valuation of $183 billion.
These companies are a hope for France and Europe in their will to remain independent on the Technology front.
The French president said he pushed French businesses to back Mistral’s deal to buy 18,000 cutting-edge AI chips from Nvidia for a huge AI data center south of Paris.
ASML's CEO downplayed this narrative and mentioned:
Mistral is an attractive partner because its focus is on helping businesses customize AI for their own use. “We don’t decide on partnership based on location or geopolitics,” Fouquet said. “We picked Mistral because they are, we thought, the best partner to execute on what we want to do.”
In any case, I think that having a 3rd power in AI (behind the US and China) is positive for the world. Also, I love their logo.
