Radnja prati Antonija, siromašnog čoveka u posleratnom Rimu, koji dobija posao za koji mu je potreban bicikl.

Film prikazuje siromaštvo, nemoć i poniženje običnog čoveka u društvu koje nema sluha za njegovu nevolju. Posebno je dirljiv odnos oca i sina, u kome Bruno, iako dete, pokazuje dostojanstvo i snagu veću od odraslih.
Poruka filma je univerzalna: nepravda i siromaštvo ne uništavaju samo egzistenciju, već i dostojanstvo čoveka. Uprkos svemu, ljudska toplina, saosećanje i veza između oca i sina ostaju jedino utočište i snaga u svetu punom nepravde.

The film depicts the poverty, powerlessness and humiliation of an ordinary man in a society that does not listen to his plight. The relationship between father and son is especially touching, in which Bruno, although a child, shows dignity and strength greater than adults.
The message of the film is universal: injustice and poverty destroy not only existence, but also human dignity. Despite everything, human warmth, compassion and the bond between father and son remain the only refuge and strength in a world full of injustice.
