As you know if reading my posts, I am finishing my series of post about last years travel around the same dates, I was in Malacca around mid November 2024 and as it happens I am back here now, writing this in my hotel room before going to KL for hivefest 10 in 2025 today.

This part of my route is similar as last year and I decided to come back to Malaysia a bit before in 2025, I really enjoyed the country last year and this year I am going to hivefest and then to other places I haven't been in Malaysia before continuing.

Anyway this is my stories and photos from last year in 2024 in Malacca written and posted in 2025 in Malacca (but at a different hotel :))

in 2024 I took the bus from Johor close to Singapore to Malacca, it was only a few hours, lots of buses are available and you can take them last minute, it is very convenient to travel around the country by road.

Red square or Dutch square

The heart of the cities, kilometer zero, the hold colony. Malacca or Melaka in Malay is an old city that was an important strategy location for global trades, I think the Portuguese got here first then the dutch and the British. You can see the some of the architecture as been saved over there years and the city is part of a UNESCO zone.

Amazing contest between the old buildings and the newer modern ones that are being built south of the city.

The is the historical center, where all the museums are; cool place to be during the day or at night, you can walk along the river, lots of bars along the way.

Got this one last year: IMG_8704.jpeg

and in 2025 PXL_20251011_044759801.jpg

I realized when crafting this article that you can't see the last number so maybe it is still the 2024 year(I am guessing they don't change that everytime) or 2025, I guess that will remain a mystery as I am leaving soon and won't have time to go back and take another picture, sorry you have to go here yourself :)

Walking up to the old Church

I took a guided tour of the city, he showed us around the historical center, all the old streets and history of some shops and houses. After we took a walk to the Church, you can access it from behind the museums. It was a very windy day when I went there.

Muzium Istana Kesultanan Melaka

One place I would recommend also is going to the sultan palace, it is a museum now that is very unique and the garden is nice to enjoy on a good day, the garden is even opened to the public sometimes during the week for free (otherwise you need the ticket for the museum)

Conclusion

I had an amazing time in Malacca, met a few amazing travelers during my stay, traveled to KL after with another French guy by bus and even went to the Batu cave later in KL with one British woman that I met in Malacca a few days before. I would recommend to visit, it is such a cool city, for me it was a nice break from moving around and could recharge a bit, also had a nice pool where I stayed last time.

Bonus tip: It is a 2h ride from KL and if motivated you could even do it in a day trip for the capital by Bus, cost of transport is around 11-15 MYR ($3 USD) one way. I would recommend staying longer of course.

PS: See you at Hivefest10 tonight in KL for the ones going, I am going to get my bus in a few hours to go to the capital city of Kuala Lumpur.
