From the very first line, my goal with this giraffe sketch was to go beyond a simple drawing and dive into the challenge of hyperrealism, where every wrinkle, hair and shadow has to work together to trick the eye into feeling texture and life on flat paper. Another challenging part was doing it without grid so its a freehand drawing even withiut an eraser!
Desde la primera línea, mi objetivo con este boceto de jirafa fue ir más allá de un simple dibujo y sumergirme en el reto del hiperrealismo, donde cada arruga, pelo y sombra debe trabajar en conjunto para engañar al ojo y hacer que sienta textura y vida en un papel plano.
Otro reto fue hacerlo sin cuadrícula, ¡así que es un dibujo a mano alzada incluso sin borrador!
What I love most about hyperrealism is that it forces patience because you can’t rush the layers of shading, crosshatching, or the little strokes that slowly build depth and character.
Lo que más me gusta del hiperrealismo es que obliga a tener paciencia porque no puedes apresurar las capas de sombreado, rayado o los pequeños trazos que poco a poco construyen profundidad y carácter.
At some point this giraffe became more than just an animal study as I worked, the eyes grew sharper, the forehead became clearer, and suddenly the expression turned into something almost human with a look of grit, wisdom and maybe even annoyance like it was tired of posing for me.
En algún momento, esta jirafa se convirtió en algo más que un estudio animal mientras trabajaba, los ojos se volvieron más nítidos, la frente se volvió más clara y, de repente, la expresión se convirtió en algo casi humano con una mirada de agallas, sabiduría y tal vez incluso molestia, como si estuviera cansada de posar para mí.
That’s the magic of hyperrealism. For me, this sketch is proof that with enough attention to detail, patience and love for the craft, a ballpoint pen can breathe life into paper and transform a simple giraffe into a portrait with personality.
Esa es la magia del hiperrealismo. Para mí, este boceto demuestra que con suficiente atención al detalle, paciencia y amor por el oficio, un bolígrafo puede dar vida al papel y transformar una simple jirafa en un retrato con personalidad.
