This drawing started with a zoomed out picture of my own face as reference, but it quickly became more than that. Every line and shade carries pieces of my story late nights, quiet struggles and small sparks of hope that have kept me pushing forward. We all have moments of hardship in any ramification, could be as little as not having juice to drink after eating chicken or as tough as not being able to afford the least daily meal.
Growing up as a young individual especially being Nigerian made life often feel heavier than I could carry alone but art became my companion, my mirror and my voice. In cases where expressions and gestures fail, art takes up the challenge and fill that void
The eyes here aren’t just eyes but they’re windows into moments of doubt, determination and resilience. Every pencil mark was a reminder that even in challenging times, there’s a fire inside that refuses to be extinguished. This piece is me saying: I am here I am present and I’m reaching for something bigger than the struggles around me, not letting myself drown in the distractions around.
What do you do when you’re trying to escape from troubles?
