Today marked the last day of our family holiday in Cornwall, and we decided to go out with a proper finale – driving west, as far west as you can go on mainland Britain. Lands End has been drawing tourists for generations, and with good reason. The family who own the land have turned it into a landmark destination, with plenty to see and do for the thousands who visit each year.

After a week packed full of adventures, the kids were definitely feeling the toll of tired legs and busy days. Still, they dug deep and soldiered on for one last wander. We were rewarded with a glimpse of dolphins playing just off the shore – a magical sight that seemed to lift everyone’s spirits. Seabirds wheeled overhead, adding to the wild coastal atmosphere, though if I’m honest, the biggest hit of the day for the kids was yet another ice cream shop stop. Some traditions are just too good to pass up, and Cornish ice cream is one of them.

We spent a few hours exploring before beginning the long six-hour journey home. The drive itself was uneventful, punctuated with a couple of quick stops to stretch legs and refuel, but there was a comforting rhythm in the return trip. By the time we pulled up at home, weary but safe, there was already talk of “the next adventure.”

Holidays like this remind me why we do it – it’s not just the sights or the tourist spots, it’s the memories made together. Cornwall has given us dolphins, seals, coastlines, and far too many ice creams to count, and though we were glad to be home, a part of us already misses the sea breeze. Until next time, Cornwall.
