El pasado sábado viví un encuentro que marcó el inicio de algo muy especial para mí y para varios jóvenes cubanos que estamos aquí en Brasil. La iniciativa nació de la suegra de mi hermano, quien tuvo la maravillosa idea de abrirnos las puertas de su casa cada sábado por la noche para hablar sobre temas que nos preocupan como jóvenes, pero desde un punto de vista diferente: lo que enseña la Biblia y lo que Dios piensa al respecto.
La propuesta es sencilla y profunda a la vez: conversar sobre asuntos de la vida real, como el sexo antes del matrimonio, la bigamia y muchos otros temas que siempre generan dudas y debates, pero hacerlo con respeto y con una guía espiritual que nos dé claridad. En este primer encuentro no profundizamos demasiado, pero sí compartimos algunas ideas iniciales que nos dejaron reflexionando.
Después de ese tiempo de diálogo, la noche tomó un giro muy cubano: sacamos el dominó, reímos, conversamos y hasta competimos como si estuviéramos en nuestra propia isla. No podían faltar las rosquillas caseras que ella preparó con tanto cariño y que quedaron deliciosas 😋. Incluso hubo premios, lo que le dio un toque divertido y motivador a la reunión, mi esposo ganó uno de ellos 😁.

Salir de Cuba y adaptarse a otra cultura nunca es fácil. Extrañamos costumbres, comidas y sobre todo la cercanía de nuestra gente. Pero cuando ocurren iniciativas como esta, se abre un espacio de pertenencia, de apoyo mutuo y de crecimiento espiritual. Creo que cada sábado se convertirá en un recordatorio de que, aunque estemos lejos de nuestra tierra, seguimos siendo una familia unida por la fe y por nuestras raíces.
Me siento agradecida por haber sido parte de este inicio y con mucha ilusión de lo que vendrá. Porque cuando se mezcla la Palabra de Dios, la amistad y un buen dominó, el corazón siempre sale fortalecido 🥰♥️.

Last Saturday I experienced a gathering that marked the beginning of something very special for me and for several young Cubans who are here in Brazil. The initiative was born from my brother’s mother-in-law, who had the wonderful idea of opening the doors of her home every Saturday night so we could talk about issues that concern us as young people, but from a different perspective: what the Bible teaches and what God thinks about them.
The proposal is simple and profound at the same time: to talk about real-life issues, such as sex before marriage, bigamy, and many other topics that always generate doubts and debates, but to do so with respect and with a spiritual guide that brings us clarity. In this first gathering we didn’t go too deep, but we did share some initial ideas that left us reflecting.
After that time of dialogue, the night took a very Cuban turn: we brought out the dominoes, laughed, talked, and even competed as if we were back on our own island. The homemade doughnuts she prepared with so much love couldn’t be missing, and they turned out delicious 😋. There were even prizes, which gave the gathering a fun and motivating touch—my husband won one of them 😁.

Leaving Cuba and adapting to another culture is never easy. We miss our customs, our food, and above all, the closeness of our people. But when initiatives like this happen, a space of belonging, mutual support, and spiritual growth opens up. I believe that each Saturday will become a reminder that, even though we are far from our homeland, we remain a family united by faith and our roots.
I feel grateful to have been part of this beginning and very excited for what’s to come. Because when the Word of God, friendship, and a good game of dominoes come together, the heart always comes out strengthened 🥰♥️.
