Hola Hivers, Hivians, Hiveros, la verdad no se como llamarlos, pero cualquier de las opciones son validas, Que tal están hoy? Bueno, algunos aca en el blog me conocen, otros no, quizás a otros les sea familiar, pero los que me conocen saben que aparezco y desaparezco muy seguido, y hay un motivo, el trabajo, quizás sea una de las pocas personas que vean que tiene 3 trabajos en Madrid (A HACIENDA LE GUSTA ESTO). Por lo cual les quiero mostrar porque desaparezco tanto tiempo del blog, y de la vida real, porque mi rutina se basa en trabajar-dormir-trabajar, pero ya eso lo hemos cambiado a mejor.
Hello Hivers, Hivians, Hiveros, I'm not really sure what to call you, but any of the options are valid. How are you today? Well, some of you here on the blog know me, others don't, and others may be familiar with me, but those who know me know that I appear and disappear very often, and there's a reason for that: work. I may be one of the few people you know who has three jobs in Madrid (THE TAX AUTHORITIES LOVE THIS). So I want to show you why I disappear from the blog and from real life for so long, because my routine is based on working-sleeping-working, but we've changed that for the better.
En primer lugar, trabaje en negro hace unos meses atrás, no tenia papeles, trabajaba unas 240h al mes, en promedio unas 9-10 al día, super explotado laboralmente por un rumano en una cafetería sin vacaciones y 1 solo día libre. Pero bueno todo son experiencias, sean buenas o malas, te hacen madurar mas, valorar las cosas. Acá hay una compi que me hizo un post, hace unos meses, le quedo genial pueden verlo y seguirla los que no la conocen.

First of all, a few months ago I was working illegally. I didn't have any papers, I worked about 240 hours a month, an average of 9-10 hours a day, and was severely exploited by a Romanian guy in a café with no holidays and only one day off. Bueno cuando por fin tienes un permiso de trabajo la cosa cambia, porque ansiabas tanto este momento y al fin lo tienes que no quieres desaprovechar la oportunidad. Un amigo me hizo el favor de meterme en una cadena de supermercados "Dia" muy famosa acá en España, lo único malo es que tenia 30h semanales, 120h al mes. En cuanto a dinero es demasiado poco para vivir, bueno básicamente solo seria para vivir. Sin embargo ya yo tenia un plan B porque semanas antes de tener mi permiso, me llamaron una cadena de coctelería llamada Anubis, muy famosa también y dijeron esperar por mi, ya que mi curriculum les había interesado, yo sinceramente lo envié sin esperar que me llamaran.
Well, when you finally get a work permit, things change, because you've been looking forward to this moment for so long and now that you finally have it, you don't want to waste the opportunity. A friend did me a favor and got me a job at a supermarket chain called “Dia,” which is very famous here in Spain. The only downside is that it was 30 hours a week, 120 hours a month. In terms of money, it's too little to live on, well, basically it would only be enough to survive. However, I already had a plan B because weeks before getting my permit, I got a call from a cocktail bar chain called Anubis, also very famous, and they said they would wait for me because they were interested in my resume. I honestly sent it without expecting them to call me.
Comencé a trabajar antes en Anubis hice mi prueba y encantados, inmediatamente me dijeron que me quedaba, comencé con bandejas, lo cual era horrible porque no tenia la experiencia adecuada, sin embargo mis compis eran lo mejor en todo momento me ayudaron y me comentaron como tomarle el truco a la bandeja.
I started working at Anubis earlier. I did my trial shift and they loved me. They immediately told me I had the job. I started with trays, which was horrible because I didn't have the right experience, but my coworkers were the best. They helped me the whole time and told me how to get the hang of the tray.
En el supermercado Dia, no tenia ni la mas mínima idea de como comenzar, el puesto era de panadero (básicamente hornear los panes que ya venían casi listos), entonces me hicieron 1 semana de entrenamiento no paga y ya luego me hicieron mi contrato. Aprendí básicamente lo necesario en mi puesto, hornear y que no se quemaran los panes (cosa que me paso 3 veces), hacer un pedido de congelados (incluía panes, productos congelados como pescado, helados, pizzas, toda esa gama). Mantener toda mi área de trabajo limpia, que seria las bandejas hornos, congeladores. Creo que tarde aproximadamente 1 mes en adaptarme por completo, a tal punto que ya tenia mis trucos, dejar preparados todos los panes que iba a hornear al día siguiente, limpiar los utensilios antes de irme, y otras cosas.
At the Dia supermarket, I had no idea how to start. The job was as a baker (basically baking bread that was already almost ready), so they gave me a week of unpaid training and then gave me a contract. I learned the basics of my job, baking and not burning the bread (which happened to me three times), placing orders for frozen goods (including bread, frozen products such as fish, ice cream, pizzas, the whole range). Keeping my entire work area clean, which included the oven trays and freezers. I think it took me about a month to fully adapt, to the point where I had my own tricks, like preparing all the bread I was going to bake the next day, cleaning the utensils before I left, and other things.
El problema comienza cuando me ven que mi turno de 5h me es suficiente para eso y tenia ciertamente un tiempo de ocio, comienzan a mandarme mas tareas que no me correspondían, reponer, vaciar el almacén, ser cajero, de todo básicamente, cosa que no me dijeron al momento de entrar porque sus palabras fueron "solo necesitamos un panadero con turno de 30h", pero por ser mi primer trabajo con papeles, y con miedo de que me echaran fui haciendo cada cosa que me pedían. Revisión de albaranes, recepción del camión, frenteo de la tienda, reposición de los pasillos, vaciado del almacén, cajero, panadero, limpieza, básicamente me sentía como una barbie "Se lo que quieras ser", ya con todo eso sobrecargado no me daba el suficiente tiempo de limpiar la panadería o reponer los productos congelados, 5h era muy poco para lo que querían que hiciera, además que cuando estaba en caja perdía 2h de mi valioso tiempo. Sumado a eso horas extras super mal pagas, no se respetaba mi horario de salida y tampoco el de descanso.
The problem starts when they see that my 5-hour shift is enough for that and I certainly had some free time, they start giving me more tasks that weren't my responsibility, restocking, emptying the warehouse, working as a cashier, basically everything, which they didn't tell me when I started because their words were “we just need a baker with a 30-hour shift,” But since it was my first job with papers, and I was afraid they would fire me, I did everything they asked me to do. Checking delivery notes, receiving the truck, facing the store, restocking the aisles, emptying the warehouse, cashier, baker, cleaning, basically I felt like a Barbie doll, “I am whatever you want me to be.” With all that overload, I didn't have enough time to clean the bakery or restock the frozen products. Five hours was not enough time for everything they wanted me to do, and when I was at the cash register, I lost two hours of my valuable time. On top of that, the overtime was very poorly paid, and they didn't respect my departure time or my break time.
Siguiente problema, mis compañeros incluyendo mis amigos comenzaban a dejarme todo hecho un caos en la panadería cuando ellos recibían el camión, era horrible porque debía hacer doble trabajo básicamente.
Next problem: my coworkers, including my friends, started leaving everything in chaos at the bakery when they received the truck. It was horrible because I basically had to do double the work.
Así que 6 meses después no soporte mas el trabajo y termine cambiando a otro, pero me falta contarles sobre Anubis, que es mi trabajo de complemento para completar una jornada de 40h, allí tengo 14h de contrato y horas extras. Fijo tengo viernes-sábado y domingo de trabajo aunque hay excepciones en las que tengo los domingos libres, horas extras en semana lo cual se puede convertir en una jornada de 20-25h semanales, sinceramente acá tarde mucho menos en adaptarme, la segunda semana que comencé a trabajar aquí ya estaba en la barra haciendo cocteles como buen bartender, ahora estoy de jefe de barra en ciertas ocasiones, en otras me toca ayudar un poco afuera, muy extraña la vez que me toca hacer cachimbas y usar el móvil para tomar los pedidos (el trabajo mas fácil hasta ahora).
So, six months later, I couldn't stand the job anymore and ended up changing to another one, but I still haven't told you about Anubis, which is my second job to complete a 40-hour week. There, I have a 14-hour contract and overtime. I always work Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, although there are exceptions when I have Sundays off. I also work overtime during the week, which can add up to a 20-25 hour week. Honestly, it took me much less time to adapt here. The second week I started working here, I was already behind the bar making cocktails like a good bartender. Now I'm the bar manager on certain occasions, and on others I have to help out a little outside. It's very rare that I have to make hookahs and use my cell phone to take orders (the easiest job so far).
Anubis es un trabajo que demanda mucha energia, fuerza de voluntad, rapidez y sin descansar, sin embargo el ambiente laboral es una locura, me encanta, por el hecho que 30% son dominicanos, 30% colombianos, 30% españoles y 10% entre peruanos y ecuatorianos (Varios de ellos nacionalizados y con acento español). Aunque el trabajo es fuerte nunca faltan las bromas, las burlas, pelear un poco por el estrés de la hora pico, pero al momento de cerrar todos ayudan a que el local este al día, incluso si no es tu trabajo, la verdad es que el trabajo aquí es mucho mejor en cuanto a compañerismo.
Anubis is a job that demands a lot of energy, willpower, speed, and no rest, but the work environment is crazy, and I love it because 30% of the staff are Dominican, 30% Colombian, 30% Spanish, and 10% Peruvian and Ecuadorian (several of whom are naturalized citizens with Spanish accents). Although the work is hard, there's always time for jokes, teasing, and a little fighting due to the stress of rush hour, but when it's time to close, everyone helps to get the place up to date, even if it's not your job. The truth is that the work here is much better in terms of camaraderie.
Y además de ellos hay días super locos que salimos a las 3:30am y de la nada hacemos planes para ir a la discoteca que cierran a las 6:00am, no es el mejor plan pero los he acompañado unas 3 veces.
And besides those days, there are crazy days when we go out at 3:30 a.m. and suddenly decide to go to a nightclub that closes at 6:00 a.m. It's not the best plan, but I've gone with them about three times.
De vuelta al a hostelería, cambie las 30h del supermercado a 32h en una cafetería llamada Rodilla, otra franquicia y en la cual me va 300 veces mejor, por el horario, al ser horarios rotativos no me estrasnocho al salir de madrugada de Anubis, tengo 2 días libres, puedo desayunar, almorzar y cenar en la misma cafetería. Mis nuevos compañeros son lo máximo, desde el primer momento me alagaron por la agilidad que tenia y por lo que sabia hacer, además me dieron los truquitos para agilizar el cierre o apertura del local, sinceramente este ambiente también me encanta y que el trabajo tiene picos, puede ser un trabajo fuerte por 2 o 3 horas, pero luego vienen otras 2 horas de trabajo suave.
Back in the hospitality industry, I switched from working 30 hours at the supermarket to 32 hours at a café called Rodilla, another franchise, where I'm doing 300 times better because of the schedule. Since it's a rotating schedule, I don't get exhausted when I leave Anubis in the early hours of the morning. I have two days off, and I can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the same café. My new colleagues are great. From the very beginning, they praised me for my agility and what I knew how to do. They also gave me tips on how to speed up closing or opening the premises. Honestly, I also love this environment, and although the work has its peaks, it can be hard work for two or three hours, but then there are another two hours of light work.
Así que damas y caballeros el motivo por el que desaparezco tanto de las redes y del blog es este, ya que las ultimas dos semanas me toco hacer jornadas de hasta 70h semanales, y a eso le sumamos que intento volver a ser constante en el gym, pues a veces no tengo vida social. Sin embargo creo que con este ultimo cambio será para mejor, mucho mas coordinado en cuanto a horario y mas tiempo para descansar y trabajo corrido.
So ladies and gentlemen, the reason why I disappear so much from social media and the blog is this: for the last two weeks I've been working up to 70 hours a week, and on top of that I'm trying to get back into a regular gym routine, so sometimes I don't have much of a social life. However, I think this latest change will be for the better, with a much more coordinated schedule and more time to rest and work continuously.
