LOH 255 || Big House Dreams, Birthday Prep, and a Little Bit of Delulu

Hello beautiful people, it's another wonderful week to participate in the Ladies of Hive prompt and as usual… I’m late. I really need to stop making this a habit, ha ha.

@irenenavarroart asked really creative questions. I love when answering a prompt sparks my imagination, though I do try not to get too lost in there. It’s a whole kingdom on its own.

Question 1

You've earned the money to buy a house, and you have two options. The first is a big, beautiful house, but one whose best years are behind it. It needs a lot of repairs and remodeling, and therefore its price is low. The second option is a small house. It's not as beautiful as the previous one, but you don't have to invest time or money in repairs, so its price is much higher. What do you choose? Are you on the "repair to my liking" team or the "buy everything ready and fast" team?

Here’s the thing: in my home country, people usually (not always, and of course, it’s 100% by choice) build houses from scratch rather than buy them. When I was younger, maybe I was just oblivious, but there was hardly a culture of buying houses. In fact, I remember my friend’s mother used to say buying houses can be dangerous because what if you buy a haunted house? Lmao. It’s funny now that I think about it.

In her words, “why will someone build house and then sell it if not because something is wrong with the house?”

That’s just one of the misconceptions our parents and grandparents had. Things have shifted now though, buying houses is more common, and honestly, it’s even more economical than building one. With buying, you simply go through an agent: what you see is what you get. But with building? Whew. You need a dream team, otherwise, your house is gonna be a whole what I ordered vs. what I got situation.

Now, to answer the question: I’d definitely, 100% purchase the big, beautiful house. As the sentence implies, it’s already beautiful. What more do I need? At the end of the day, even after buying your Pinterest-perfect dream house, you’ll still want to refurbish some things, add personal touches, and make it yours.

To me, building a house is way more expensive than buying one. So instead of getting a small house (which I’d still end up spending on), why not buy the bigger one and polish it to my taste? Smart money thinking also supports this choice.

And honestly? A small house won’t cut it for me. I dream of a walk-in wardrobe for me and my husband. For my girls and my boys. I want us to live a minimalistic yet luxurious lifestyle. Sure, you can try that with a small house, but I’ve always dreamed of a beautiful two-tier house with a swimming pool. (Ha ha, delulu is the solulu, they say.)

So where’s my “repair to my liking” team? Let’s goooo ladies!

Question 2

In my country, school vacation is over, while in others, summer has just ended. What preparations are you making for your home and routine for the coming months?

Ouuuu, I love this one. Well, my mum’s birthday is coming up and if that doesn’t call for celebration, I don’t know what else does, lol. But with celebration comes preparations, lots and lots of them.

Lately, we’ve been grooming the chickens (apologies to the vegetarians), doing extra house cleaning, and the latest activity was her birthday photoshoot. As you might already know, Nigerians can be a little extra, so yes, some birthdays call for photoshoots, lol. But honestly, it’s always just joy and fun.

After her birthday comes mine and (snaps fingers) let’s just say… we’re already stepping into celebration-queen mode, lol.

As for routine, my home is the opposite of structured. But one thing that always brings us back together after our different daily routines is night devotions. That’s a constant.

So yeah, that’s my story. What’s yours? Join the Ladies of Hive community contest and let’s find out!
