The Soft Life, But Simpler and Less GUCCI Validated

@whatmidesays · 2025-10-11 18:49 · The MINIMALIST

I think I accidentally became a minimalist.

Not the Pinterest kind with white walls and only two cups in the kitchen, but the “I just want peace” kind.

It started with my closet, actually. I remember looking at my wardrobe one morning and thinking, why do I have so many clothes but nothing to wear? That was my breaking point. I started removing the “just in case” dresses and those trendy pieces that never really felt like me.

I remember there was a particular birthday when I went to the market to shop. There was light everywhere; however, it was those fluorescent lights that usually change colors. Oblivious to this fact, I got a top only to get home and find the GUCCI color all over it, the signature Green and Red. To say I was flabbergasted is an understatement. I couldn't return it, and I couldn't wear it. I wasn't necessarily traumatized, but for months, I stuck to buying only plain clothes. Unconsciously, I developed a deep love for styling plain tops because they turn out to be way more versatile.

That’s how I slowly found my style. Simple, but intentional.

I’ve always leaned toward classy and polished outfits, but now I’ve learned to appreciate the quiet kind of elegance. A well-fitted top, high-waisted wide-leg trousers, maybe a slim belt that hugs my waist just right. That’s my comfort zone. I like outfits that feel soft but structured. Minimal, but still making a statement.

There’s something about clean silhouettes that just feels calming. No noise. No unnecessary layers. Just balance. I love how neutral tones make me feel, beige, tan, soft whites. And then, every once in a while, I throw in a bold color like royal blue or gold, just to remind myself that I still love drama.

I also love layers. A little trench coat to the pants and a camisole. However, due to my change in location and the atmospheric hotness where I am currently, layering would be a suicide attempt. I am, however, looking to explore scarves, the silky vintage type. I'm yet to make a move, though.

Even with accessories, I’ve changed. I used to be a “more is more” kind of girl, bracelets, statement earrings, everything. These days, I’m happy with a simple gold necklace or a good pair of earrings. I want to look like I tried, but not like I tried too hard.

Although I still love a good jewelry stacking. Especially when you're wearing something like a jersey and trousers, throw in a little less-drama sneakers, then about two-three pairs of necklaces, two bracelets on one hand, one on the other hand with a wristwatch. Add one ring to each hand. Do not forget earrings, a simple loop earring will do just fine, and there you have a perfectly balanced jewelry stacking. Not too much, but still making a STATEMENT.

And funny enough, this shift didn’t stop at my clothes. My space changed, too. I started craving fewer tabs open on my laptop and phone. I didn’t even realize I was decluttering my environment the same way I was decluttering my wardrobe, and maybe even my mind.

I started choosing what to keep and what to let go of, not just physically, but mentally too. And maybe a little too much, lol. I’m learning to drop the guilt of not owning everything or doing everything actually.

If I had to share one fashion hack that changed how I dress, it would be: fit over quantity, always. I stopped buying random clothes just because they were cute on someone else. Now, I only buy what fits my body, my lifestyle, and my energy. I’ve realized that when your wardrobe matches who you are, you stop feeling the need to chase trends.

Also, at some point, I started feeling like I was buying the same type of clothing, so I switched it up by buying the same clothing in different colors. That way, I can switch things up every single time. One thing about fashion is this: if it's not working with textures, try colors. And if not colors, try patterns. It's fun, really.

I still love to dress up. I still have my sparkly “main character” outfits, but they’re rare moments now, not my everyday. I don't save clothes for an occasion, though; I am the occasion. It entirely depends on what energy I'm looking to channel for the day. And that’s okay. I think that’s what minimalism did for me too.

And honestly, if you see me walking around in my beige top, wide-leg jeans, a belt, and a small gold necklace, just know, I feel like I’ve figured life out that day, ha ha.
