**Synopsis**: *Frank Drebin Jr. wants to maintain order in the town where he lives, working as the head of the Police Squad... However, will he be able to follow in the footsteps of his own father (who held the same position) and save the world without causing too many mishaps along the way?* Contrary to what many people might imagine, I think making comedies (especially these days) is one of the most difficult things in the world of cinema. Screenwriters have to deal with various types of conflict, especially when writing about topics that are more sensitive to society. In this sequel, there's much more freedom in making jokes with different themes, which, because they're embedded within a more absurdist comedic approach (but which constantly tries to present itself as something more serious, fostering the aspect of classic accidental comedy), are better received by the general public... And that's precisely this script's strength. ![the_naked_gun02.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23tvZvovNg2P5Z7b6gpejukBoVzn7WFzrnUoGzbQKcFXGn9GPHW4CrXFsgZjTKEzxakta.jpg) [The New York Times](https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/31/movies/the-naked-gun-review.html) ![the_naked_gun07.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23tbP7thAP33nNdXQzcBQyotSgVUQEjYRhYePLJDnYzjkMdz1UiVnueZpfC9Ec9XYThdo.jpg) [Games Radar](https://www.gamesradar.com/entertainment/comedy-movies/the-naked-gun-sequel-called-deliciously-stupid-and-an-actual-comedy-movie-in-first-reactions-if-there-was-any-justice-in-the-world-liam-neeson-would-get-an-oscar/) Working as a direct sequel of the timeless legacy of the incredible (and much-missed) **Leslie Nielsen** (who, by the way, I consider one of the best comedians of all time), this time, the plot brings detective Frank Drebin Jr. (who is the head of the Police Squad) to the center of attention, in the midst of a seemingly "simple" investigation, but which soon reveals itself to be a much more "intricate" narrative than it previously seemed. Within this context, the script uses (and abuses) creativity to create great jokes, which don't always have perfect comedic timing, but become functional due to their assertive insertion within the plot. I'm a huge fan of the original franchise, and I confess that when this sequel was confirmed, I was quite worried because Hollywood's track record for remakes and revivals isn't particularly appealing. My level of concern increased a bit more after **Liam Neeson** was confirmed (not because he's a bad actor, which he's far from being, but because he's never worked within the realm of comedy in his entire career up until that point). But fortunately, everything that was constructed on screen is quite convincing, exceeding all my personal expectations (which were previously low, but fortunately were well met by a movie that is masterfully entertaining). ![the_naked_gun03.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23uFRYDbXrTyc7aZTg9gb5zZ2cdaFQEDs4RM8hvasE5KD2WwZFpqvQH78pHXFDTv5SZz6.png) [Flickering Myth](https://www.flickeringmyth.com/movie-review-the-naked-gun-2025/) ![the_naked_gun08.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23wqZqH2Drvwha2fUd2dkA2SUuDYHbNBxpuYeusB8fFhA5cZQ2k3Fq4dPNnxJMfmEwcJp.jpg) [News and Sentinel](https://www.newsandsentinel.com/news/local-news/2025/08/movie-review-liam-neeson-tries-to-fill-leslie-nielsens-gumshoes-in-a-new-naked-gun/) In the plot, the naturally clumsy detective must juggle two distinct "lines of investigation" that ultimately become one due to the hidden motivations behind the acts committed. During the investigation, he joins forces with Beth Davenport, a mysterious woman seeking to take justice into her own hands and avenge her brother's death. Their common target is Richard Cane, a mentally unbalanced tech magnate with an absurd plan to create a new kind of society and create a new future using the mental distortion of human beings as a weapon of mass destruction to promote natural selection. Drebin relies on his assistant Ed Hocken Jr. to solve the case they're investigating, but they consistently disappoint chief Davis, who makes their work more difficult because she believes they're becoming a real headache for the squad. However, this doesn't stop them from continuing to work, opting for stealthy investigative methods to continue their work. The script is skillfully written, bringing all the scatological nostalgia (and nonsense) of the original trilogy into a new, more modern, more pluralistic, more absurdly fun, and more willing to incorporate elements that could be seen as "dated". ![the_naked_gun06.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23wzvLnexUZBaATfE36k44JHefgDpnko4F6VCrXzSnyB5MRTmEqC3ypBdKTFGsKneoPus.png) [Slash Film](https://www.slashfilm.com/1925863/naked-gun-review-2025-reboot/) ![the_naked_gun09.1.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23tkk8JARyquUJzh9WESaJMxiTdjgCVcGyjYGG9a75EkbGtvDSCqEvNYAStggphknZgpG.png) [The Hollywood Reporter](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/naked-gun-reboot-writers-liam-neeson-interview-1236337905/) There was a clear focus on updating the plot, and the inclusion of technological elements (such as electric cars and even technology that favors the manipulative control of the masses through digital signals) clearly demonstrates this (and, incidentally, ends up being a great source of inspiration for physical humor). On the other hand, the script also made a big bet by reviving the atmosphere of the original trilogy (especially in the random jokes that emerge as background in some scenes), creating the perfect setting for countless confusions (whether those directly linked to the movie's main plot or those more "sporadic" and unexpected). The characters are fun and relatively well-developed. Liam Neeson's portrayal of Frankin Drebin Jr. was more natural than I imagined, as were his interactions with the other characters (especially with **Pamela Anderson**, who, by the way, has some great moments in the story). Everything is very synergistic, yet at the same time absurd within a narrative line of investigation more closely aligned with thriller and action movies (obviously, making the necessary adjustments to work with the comedic tone, capitalizing on all the absurdities scattered throughout the plot). From the physical humor to the "verbose" humor... There are far more hits than misses. ![the_naked_gun05.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23wBzxmpVvjsRk6rKXn21jCZdv9pTcFkocw1gko61sg1CmLDH1tYXf6f3z1AVs6v9DfUo.png) [The Hollywood Reporter](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/the-naked-gun-first-reactions-premiere-1236331847/) ![the_naked_gun10.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23t79KxDYwc6kfx9hsejgvrBrwD5fK6YmVWucxhPYGhXYirPDxvnP2rbT4mYyqMjD53x5.jpg) [Nerdist](https://nerdist.com/article/the-naked-gun-trailer-liam-neeson-pamela-anderson/) Small details become potential jokes for attentive viewers, especially those who have already seen the original trilogy. A scenic setting (for example, the scenes set in a club are clearly useful within this context) or even a more distinctive soundtrack (something that is "emblematic" in the foundation of the source material) without the need for physical or verbal humor create the perfect opportunities to make the audience laugh genuinely (evidencing how well the script works, even if some of these jokes are "slower" paced... or aren't as funny as they should be). The script takes a straightforward approach to the facts and doesn't create anything outlandish. On the other hand, it creates a narrative that engages its audience very well, within an atmosphere that's easily recognizable by the clarity of its premise (which is obviously to make people laugh). This is an example of a movie that follows a guideline about doing the basics well, without sacrificing the creative right to reimagine its source material without destroying the legacy it created. I was truly satisfied with everything I saw, and I already hope they make at least two more movies, so that a new trilogy becomes a reality for all fans of the franchise. ![the_naked_gun11.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23tkdcoWbDLZQ3QnGwZVKma2xxTh6pZVN1AYWG4YQydtJpvGbifvcTz1hiczKLPyfXAPP.jpg) [CinemaBlend](https://www.cinemablend.com/movies/i-just-found-out-the-naked-gun-pamela-anderson-connection-franchise-before-joining-love-how-worked-out) ![the_naked_gun04.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/wiseagent/23wC5hBZemuidpQLLj7gL7zMFLu1j4ptWvPB795wJzQDjdWsKxPyMdNsKfCspYmXuSNyf.png) [Monet - Globo](https://revistamonet.globo.com/filmes/noticia/2025/08/diretor-do-corra-que-a-policia-vem-ai-original-diz-que-nao-vai-assistir-ao-novo-filme-por-que-eu-deveria.ghtml) ***The Naked Gun*** is, quite literally, a consistent "machine gun of jokes" (filled with old references mixed with more modern ones, from the political world to the entertainment world) that won't let you catch your breath easily. A double credit to **Akiva Schaffer** (who not only helped write the script but also directed the project... strongly proving his doublel skill in these two major roles), who managed to revive something so difficult in today's cinema (and still found room to pay appropriate tribute to some older characters, even if everything was discreet). Here, I give it a top recommendation.
