Primošten: Above and Under

Hello Hive travellers, today I am taking you to Croatia's coast. Some places feel like they were never meant to be real. Primošten is one of those. A small coastal village in Croatia, tucked between Split and Šibenik, it looks like a dream someone painted and then accidentally left on the map.

I didn’t arrive with much of a plan. Just the idea of walking around, soaking in the local charm, and maybe doing something a bit adventurous. It didn’t take long for Primošten to win me over. The old town sits on a tiny peninsula, with narrow stone alleys that twist between old houses, all topped with those classic orange roofs. There’s a church up on a hill with a view that could make you believe in something, even if it’s just the magic of well-placed benches and sea breeze.

I wandered. I got a little lost. I found a courtyard full of sunflowers and sleepy cats, and honestly, it felt like I was trespassing in a painting.

At some point, I signed up for a scuba diving trip. I don’t remember exactly why. Maybe it was the idea of seeing octopuses. Maybe I just liked the sound of it. Either way, I showed up at the dive center the next morning, slightly nervous but mostly excited.

Once we were underwater, everything went quiet. The world above faded out, and this whole other planet came into focus. Rocky reefs, waving seagrass, fish that looked like they had somewhere important to be. The Adriatic isn’t flashy, but it’s beautiful in that quiet way that stays with you. I even managed not to panic when a bold little fish swam way too close. Apparently, they don’t respect personal space down there.

The instructors were easygoing and reassuring, and I felt totally safe. Except maybe when I smiled underwater and immediately got a mask full of seawater. Lesson learned.

Back on land, I found a table by the sea and ordered a glass of local wine. My face was salty, my hair a mess, and I hadn’t felt that content in a long time. Dinner was grilled fish, probably caught earlier that day, eaten while the sun slowly melted into the water.

Primošten isn’t loud or packed with sights. It doesn’t need to be. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down, to stop checking your phone, to breathe in the sea air and forget what time it is. I didn’t do much, and somehow, it felt like more than enough.

Would I go back? Absolutely. Next time, I might even stay long enough to figure out how to properly pronounce the name. Thank you for your attention, and see you next time in another adventure.
