Greeting hivers! I'am Iris fron East Java, Indonesia. Recently the weather has been very unpredictable here at Indonesia, it can be very sunny at noon but rain cat and dog at night. So I decided to cook something light and easy to the tummy for my son but still nutritious.
I enjoy cooking actually, but since my son is very picky eater, I haven't cook a lot because I am so sad if he didn't like my food. So, I left his meal on the mercy of my mom. But now he is growing up and his appetite has been improving, so I decided to begin cooking for him again. So this is my simple recipe for kid-friendly steamed fish.
INGREDIENTS: - 1 medium grouper - 5 cloves of garlic - 1 stalk of green garlic - 5 cm ginger
I choosed grouper because the meat is soft and sweet but you can use any white fish that is available. However, please choose a fish that don't have a lot of spines, since the fish will be cooked as whole.
PREPARATION
-
Clean the fish by removing the inside and the scales then set aside.
-
Mince 3 cloves of garlic and thinly slice the two others.
-
Clean up the green garlic and separate the white lart and green part. Thinly slice the green part and cut half the white part then cut it for about 5cm long.
- After preparing the ingredients, we need to prepare the sauce:
-
Mix all the sauce on a bowl and set it aside.
-
Prepare a heat resistance containers and fill it out with geen garlic stalks, sliced garlic and sliced ginger.
- Then, put the fish on top of them and pour the sauce.
- Add 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to reduce the fishy smell
- Heat up the steam, and put the fish in for about 20-30 minutes. You can also flip out the fish in the middle of steaming process to make sure the sauce permeates the fish well.
Very easy right? I already introduced my son with natural seasoning like herbs and leaves since he start weaning so he is familiar with ginger taste. Thankfully he liked my steamed fish and finish his whole meal, though I didn't take any photos.
You can also modified the recipe to carter adult taste by adding slice chilly and cooking wine to boost the flavour. This menu is also my favorite when I feel under weather but don't have anything to cook. This goes really well with warm rice and simple saute vegetables as well.
Since this is the first time I shared my cooking journey, please apologize if the steps still confusing. Please let me know your thoughts and if there any suggestion to improve my cooking diary since I planned to share my kitchen adventures with you.
Thank you for stopping by and see you around, Hivers!
