Quasicrystalline Spin Network
Above Arcan Bar, Arambol. Continuation of part 4 of my Masala Journeys.
Introduction
In my last post, I was in India on my Masala Adventure 004. I would like to start a new journal called Writerz Diary, where I describe my travels and the artistic impulses that accompany them. These strong tendencies to escape the mundane and explore all possibilities are driven by the urge to go beyond just sitting and to experience life to the fullest.
The first question that always arises in my mind is:
"What can I do, and what am I not thinking about?"
Once I get an answer I tell myself the impossible is untried.
From this question, I derive:
"How can I achieve it?"
If there is something I want and there are voices that tell me it's impossible, I have always been the kind of person who never listens to them. I can be stubborn at times, especially when people say it's unrealistic.
I think the worst is when that voice is in your head, saying:
"Chill, forget it, do it tomorrow. It won't work..."
I refuse to accept what people later attribute to destiny or the excuse of not having explored alternative options and deviating from what they would describe as an inevitable outcome. I will explore the debates of faith, destiny, determinism, compatibilism, libertarianism, and Laissez-Faire in another post.
Picturing What I Want
When I try to imagine what I want to create, I first have an image of the end result in my mind's eye. In this particular incident, it was a wall with my graffiti on it, delivering a message.
How would I achieve it?
I basically imagined all the possible scenarios and outcomes of me proposing this to the property owner, as if I was in an infinite time loop, living through it again and again until I found the key dialogue that worked. It usually feels like instant meditation.
I will reveal my magical spell below.
Getting Paint in Goa
I knew I wanted to paint, and good quality spray paint wasn't going to be easy to get. That's why I contacted various people in my network in India to procure the necessary material. Eventually, I had to make a long trip to Panjim to get it.
To my surprise, there was a wide range of spray paint available. I was impressed with the options, including some imported brands from Greece, Germany, and China. I decided to settle for a Greek brand that I was familiar with, as I had been sponsored by them to do various events. The company imports different brands from all over the world, so I knew they would have good quality paint.
Executing the Task
As I stood there, staring up at the daunting task before me, I knew that this was going to take some serious persuasion. Two rooftop walls, both hovering over a 40cm gap - it was a recipe for disaster. But I had a mission to accomplish, and I wasn't going to let a little thing like vertigo stand in my way.
First, I had to locate the owner of the building. Discreetly, I asked around until I had a name. Then, I approached the shopkeeper and uttered those magic words: "Can I show him something?"
The tension was palpable as I opened the file on my mobile, revealing a series of old paintings I had made using spray paint. The shopkeeper looked at me skeptically, but I could sense his curiosity growing.
"I like to paint stuff like this," I said, my voice low and persuasive. "And I was thinking I could make a painting for you."
The shopkeeper hesitated. "How much do you charge?" , he asked, or perhaps more dauntingly, "I don't know if it will stay for long because we are renovating soon."
But I was ready for this. I asked if he had any preferences or if he was open to suggestions. With "1," he agreed to have me write the name of his shop on the wall and offered to let me paint anything I'd like but with "2" would have let me paint anything, as it wasn't going to stay forever.
Creating the Quasicrystalline Spin Network
Finally, the time had come to paint. I knew there were so many ways for this project to come to fruition. This experience told me that there are more experiments i'd like to dive into that involve a series of shapes in different colors that interlocked with each other to form a complex pattern.
The "Quasicrystalline Spin Network." was something that reminded me of the emergence theory, that really resonates with me on a profound level. Like Neo in the matrix, the character sees the beyond the 3rd dimension and matter and particles form and shape.
Inspired by the structure of quasicrystals, which are materials that exhibit non-repeating patterns but still have a high degree of symmetry I thought of the Planck scale and harmony within the universe. I have been thinking of going down that route for a very long time. I wanted to create a similar pattern using spray paint, and still result was a mesmerizing display of color and shape.

Conclusion
In conclusion, this project was a great example of how persistence and determination can lead to success. Despite facing challenges like getting the necessary materials and finding a suitable location, I was able to create something that might make a targeted audience question my motives. Wisdom can be found in unexpected places, often hidden in plain sight. Metaphors, in particular, can serve as powerful guides that lead us towards self-discovery. By fine-tuning our senses and engaging in mindful observation, we can tap into a humble awareness of our own limitations and recognize the vast potential for growth that lies before us. But true insight can only be gained through action, by boldly expressing and exploring the depths of our innermost selves. Through this journey of self-expression, we can unlock the secrets of our own being and gain a deeper understanding of the world around us. -@yangyanje
