Hello Hivers....
This post is my entry for the Cityscape Photography Contest hosted by @photofeed. If you'd like to participate, please read the rules here
The bird in the photo I'm sharing is a type of hummingbird, often called a sunbird in Southeast Asia. It's a tiny bird known for its beautiful feathers and its habit of sucking flower nectar. It has a small body and a long, curved beak, ideal for reaching flower nectar.
Hummingbirds are small, averaging only 9–15 cm. The photo clearly shows their captivating color combination. The chest and abdomen are bright yellow, the throat and upper chest are a shiny metallic blue, the long beak curves downward, and the slender wings support their agile movements. These bright colors are typically found in males to attract females during the mating season.
Hummingbirds, or honeybirds, are commonly found in Asia, including Aceh. They live in tropical forests, gardens, and yards filled with flowers. In addition to sucking nectar, hummingbirds also occasionally eat small insects for supplemental nutrition.
Beyond their melodious chirping, the beauty of hummingbirds is also a major attraction for bird lovers. Their bright colors are even more beautiful when exposed to sunlight.
Unfortunately, hummingbird populations in some areas are threatened by poaching for pets and the loss of natural habitat due to land conversion. To ensure their survival, it is crucial to preserve their natural habitat and refrain from capturing these birds indiscriminately.
Hummingbirds are not just natural beautifiers, but also tiny heroes in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. With their tiny bodies, they aid in pollination and bring colorful beauty to the world around us. Seeing them perched on a small branch, as in the photo, further amazes us with this unique creation of God.
