El primer punto a destacar: los trabajadores no actúan con odio, sino con complicidad risueña, como si fuera parte de un juego. Y justamente ahí está la trampa: el machismo rara vez se expresa de manera brutal y evidente, sino que se esconde en gestos normalizados, en bromas que restan valor a la mujer, en acciones que reproducen la idea de que su incomodidad no importa o que su presencia es un estorbo. Se trata de violencia simbólica porque lo que se reproduce no es un acto aislado, sino un mensaje cultural: cuando una mujer incomoda, la solución no es el diálogo ni el respeto, sino el deshacerse de ella.

And that’s the trap: machismo rarely expresses itself brutally and openly; instead, it hides in normalized gestures, in jokes that devalue women, in actions that reproduce the idea that her discomfort doesn’t matter or that her presence is a nuisance. This is symbolic violence because what is reproduced is not an isolated act but a cultural message: when a woman is bothersome, the solution is not dialogue or respect, but to get rid of her.

And what is celebrated is legitimized. This is how systems of oppression endure, not through monstrous acts, but through small everyday gestures repeated without criticism.

La naturalización se vuelve complicidad: una mujer convertida en objeto, metida en una bolsa y descartada, se vuelve parte de una broma. Pero detrás hay un mensaje: cuando una mujer molesta, puede ser desechada. Ese mensaje, aunque se disfrace de humor, sigue siendo violencia. Y es importante remarcarlo, porque la naturalización es complicidad. Cada vez que reímos sin pensar, cada vez que callamos ante estas escenas, reforzamos la cultura que sostiene desigualdades y violencias.
Normalization becomes complicity: a woman turned into an object, bagged and discarded, becomes part of a joke. But behind it there is a message: when a woman bothers, she can be thrown away. That message, even if disguised as humor, is still violence. And it is important to point this out because normalization is complicity. Every time we laugh without thinking, every time we remain silent before these scenes, we reinforce the culture that sustains inequalities and violence.
Este video es un espejo incómodo, muestra lo que pasa en miles de lugares de trabajo como talleres, oficinas, barrios, donde el machismo se expresa como chiste. El feminismo insiste en que nada de esto es trivial porque las bromas sostienen las ideas, y las ideas sostienen las prácticas. Si decimos que “solo es humor”, estamos diciendo también que “no importa”. Y si no importa, entonces se habilita la misma violencia que en otras circunstancias se vuelve real, física, letal.

Lo que se espera, entonces, es una reacción crítica. Que las empresas implementen capacitaciones, que los trabajadores reflexionen sobre sus actos, que la sociedad entienda que naturalizar la violencia simbólica es abrir la puerta a violencias mayores. El feminismo no busca arruinar la diversión ni eliminar el humor de la vida cotidiana. El video de Shell no es un caso aislado: es un síntoma. Y como todo síntoma, nos obliga a preguntarnos por la enfermedad que revela.
What is expected, then, is a critical reaction. That companies implement training, that workers reflect on their actions, that society understands that normalizing symbolic violence is opening the door to greater forms of violence. Feminism does not seek to ruin fun or eliminate humor from everyday life. The Shell video is not an isolated case: it is a symptom. And like any symptom, it forces us to ask ourselves about the illness it reveals.
