Halloween es una de mis épocas favoritas, no solo porque me gusta el género de terror, sino también porque con mis hijos esta época siempre se vivió diferente a cuando yo era niña. Mis hijos esperaban esta fecha para disfrazarse, salir a reunirse con amigos y compartir, incluso en el colegio si habían cumpleaños esas fiestas eran temáticas de Halloween, y yo por supuesto comprometida con todo lo relacionado para que tuviesen sus disfraces y todo. Hoy quiero compartirles esta decoración para ubicarla en alguna mesita de la sala o en el comedor, para ambientar esas pequeñas reuniones... Bienvenidos.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year, not only because I love the horror genre, but also because my children's experience of this time has always been different than when I was a child. My children looked forward to this time to dress up, go out and meet up with friends, and spend time together. Even at school, if there were birthday parties, those parties were Halloween-themed, and I, of course, was committed to ensuring they had their costumes and everything. Today, I want to share this decoration with you, to place on a small table in the living room or dining room, to set the mood for those small get-togethers... Welcome.

* Cartulina negra, naranja y blanca. * Pega blanca y silicón caliente. * Tijera, cúter, punzón y aplanadora. * Bolígrafo, marcador, hoja y regla. * Lamparitas tipo velas.
* Black, orange, and white cardstock. * White glue and hot glue. * Scissors, box cutter, awl, and a planer. * Pen, marker, paper, and a ruler. * Candle-like lights.

El diseño que pensé consta de 4 cajitas o rectángulos para simular la estructura de una casa de terror. Así que comencé a diseñar el tamaño de cada cajita, considerando la altura, el grueso o profundidad, la forma de arriba, puerta y ventanas. Cada cajita la hice individualmente y otro detalle es que este borrador o plantilla dejé establecida o marcada, la parte donde añadiría también un pliegue adicional que servirá para conectar o pegar las formas.

The design I came up with consisted of four small boxes or rectangles to simulate the structure of a haunted house. So I began designing the size of each box, considering the height, thickness or depth, and the shape of the top, door, and windows. I made each box individually, and another detail is that this rough draft or template left a mark, indicating the part where I would add an additional fold that would serve to connect or glue the shapes.

Corté en cartulina negra cada una de las plantillas de las 4 cajitas que formarán la casita de terror. Para cortar las ventanas donde las dejé planteadas en las plantillas, fijé la plantilla a la cartulina con clips de presión, para hacer más fácil el corte y que no se mueva. Luego, abrí cada ventana y la puerta con tijera o cúter. Para marcar los doblez de las formas, utilicé un punzón que pasé suavemente, por cada línea que corresponde.

I cut each of the templates for the four boxes that will make up the haunted house out of black cardstock. To cut the windows where I outlined them on the templates, I secured the template to the cardstock with pressure clips to make cutting easier and prevent it from moving. Then, I opened each window and door with scissors or a box cutter. To score the folds of the shapes, I used a hole punch, gently running it along each corresponding line.

Para perfilar bien los doblez, me ayudé de una herramienta aplanadora, y así queda suficientemente marcado y de forma prolija. Fíjense que aún no he aplicado pega y sin embargo, las cajitas se paran perfectas.

To properly outline the folds, I used a flattening tool, and it's nicely defined and neat. Note that I haven't applied any glue yet, yet the boxes stand up perfectly.

Ahora para pegar en algunos lados utilicé la pistola de silicón caliente, pero también puede usarse pega blanca, en los pliegues que hice para conectar o armar las piezas. Con un poco de cartulina de color naranja, corté una tira y luego trozos para ubicarlos por dentro de las ventanas, esto le da más carácter de Halloween ya que son los colores característicos.

Now, to glue some of the sides, I used a hot glue gun, but you can also use white glue on the folds I made to connect or assemble the pieces. Using some orange cardstock, I cut a strip and then cut pieces to place inside the windows. This gives it more of a Halloween feel, since those are the characteristic colors.

Una vez colocadas las piezas de color naranja, con el marcador y una regla realicé las líneas en forma de cruz en las ventanas, para simular los vidrios. Ahora con tiras de cartulina de color negro, realizaré los techos de cada una de las 4 cajitas de la casita de terror.

Once the orange pieces were in place, I used a marker and a ruler to draw cross-shaped lines on the windows to simulate glass. Now, using strips of black cardstock, I'll make the roofs for each of the four boxes in the haunted house.

Detalles adicionales, con cartulina negra corté tiras e hice una reja bien irregular para simular desgaste o descuido en la casita de terror. También, dibujé y corté un árbol bastante tenebroso.

For additional details, I cut strips of black cardstock and made a very irregular fence to simulate wear and tear or neglect on the haunted house. I also drew and cut a rather spooky tree.

Otros detalles fueron unos fantasmitas en cartulina blanca, con sus dos ojos y una boca, y también un murciélago, que ubiqué en los techos. Para completar la ambientación, utilicé las lamparitas en forma de vela, que dan un luz de color amarillo y queda perfecto para dar ese toque tenebroso.

Other details included little ghosts made of white cardboard, with two eyes and a mouth, and a bat, which I placed on the ceilings. To complete the setting, I used candle-shaped lamps, which give off a yellow glow and are perfect for adding that spooky touch.
