This film caught my attention because illustration has an important place in my family. My older children, although they are professionals with degrees in Architecture and Business Administration, actually work as freelance digital illustrators. This is largely because, ever since my children were little, I always encouraged them to draw everything, absolutely everything: their homework, projects, exhibition posters, cards—everything had to have drawings and their signature. And as they grew up, drawing, manga, cartooning, comic book, and other classes were always an extracurricular activity. So, drawing is a subject that really catches my attention, and when I saw the trailer for SKETHC, where we see a girl vent her pain by drawing, and her drawings come to life, causing chaos and a great fantasy adventure, I definitely had to see it.

Esta película me llamó mucho la atención ya que la Ilustración tiene un lugar importante en mi familia, mis hijos mayores aunque son profesionales con carreras como Arquitectura y Administración de Empresas, realmente se desempeñan como Ilustradores Digitales Freelance, y se debe en gran parte porque desde que mis hijos eran pequeños siempre les inculqué hacerle dibujos a todo, absolutamente todo, a sus tareas, trabajos, láminas para exposición, tarjetas, todo tenía que tener dibujos y su firma. Y cuando fueron creciendo los cursos de dibujos, manga, caricaturas, historietas, etc siempre fueron una actividad extracurricular. Así que los dibujos son un tema que me llama mucho la atención, y al ver el tráiler de SKETHC donde vemos que una niña desahoga su dolor dibujando, y que sus dibujos cobran vida ocasionando un caos y una gran aventura de fantasía, pues definitivamente tenía que verla.

We meet the Wyatt family, who recently lost their mother. We see father Taylor and son Jack, who try to maintain order at home but repress their grief. The other family member is little Amber, who isn't doing very well with her grief and channels it through dark, monstrous drawings in her sketchbook. The plot unfolds when the notebook accidentally falls into a mysterious pond that has the power to bring anything it touches to life. Suddenly, Amber's grief monsters become real, causing chaos, filled with danger and colored dust. This fantastical adventure of survival unites the siblings, who will try to stop these monsters; and their father will do the same.

Conocemos a la familia Wyatt que perdió recientemente a la madre. Vemos al padre, Taylor y el hijo Jack, quienes tratan de mantener el orden en casa, pero reprimen su dolor. El otro miembro de la familia es la niña Amber, a quien no le va muy bien con su duelo y lo canaliza a través de dibujos oscuros y monstruosos en su cuaderno de bocetos. La trama se desata cuando el cuaderno cae accidentalmente en un estanque misterioso que tiene el poder de dar vida a lo que toca. De repente, los monstruos del dolor de Amber se vuelven reales, causando un caos, lleno de peligros y polvo de colores. Toda esta aventura fantástica por sobrevivir va a unir a los hermanos, quienes tratarán de detener a estos monstruos; y por otra parte su padre hará lo mismo.

Although I'm no visual effects expert, my first impression of the film was that the CGI (I think that's what they're called) wasn't high-end, meaning it didn't have the polished, realistic finish we see in other films like Pixels or Minecraft. But I think it worked because the CGI wasn't meant to be a perfect representation of reality, but rather a manifestation of the girl's pain and anger, and in this case, the visually imperfect, drawn-out, or sketched appearance works very well. The true protagonist of Sketch is grief, and this topic is somewhat in fashion because I've seen some films about which I've made posts in this community, such as [TALK TO ME](https://peakd.com/hive-166847/@yennysferm71/talk-to-me-is-this-horror-opinion-talk-to-me-is-this-horror-opinion) and [BRING IT BACK](https://peakd.com/hive-166847/@yennysferm71/bloody-and-disturbing-horror-not-suitable-for-the-sensitive) whose central theme is grief. Well, in Sketch we won't see that type of horror, but rather one more oriented towards fantasy.

Aunque no soy experta en efectos visuales, la primera impresión de la película fue que el CGI (creo que así se dice) no era de alta gama, es decir no tiene ese acabado Pulido y realista que vemos en otras películas como Pixels o Minecraft. Pero creo que sí funcionó porque el CGI no buscaba ser una representación perfecta de la realidad, sino la manifestación del dolor y la ira de la niña, y en este caso la apariencia visualmente imperfecta, como dibujada o boceteada funciona muy bien. El verdadero protagonista de Sketch es el duelo, y este tema está como de moda porque he visto algunas películas de las cuales he hecho mi post en esta comunidad, como lo son [HÁBLAME](https://peakd.com/hive-166847/@yennysferm71/hablame-esto-es-terror-opinion-talk-to-me-is-this-horror-opinion) y [HAZ QUE REGRESE](https://peakd.com/hive-166847/@yennysferm71/terror-sangriento-y-perturbador-no-apto-para-sensibles-bloody-and-disturbing-horror-not-suitable-for-the-sensitive) cuyo tema central es el duelo. Bueno, en Sketch no veremos ese tipo de terror, sino más orientado hacia la fantasía.

Without giving too many spoilers, there's a very short part of the film where Amber tells her brother, "...shut up, you're always talking and shouting orders..." He tells her he's trying to help her. But Amber tells him he makes her feel like there's "something wrong with her," and he tells her "maybe there is something wrong with her." With this short dialogue, we can see that they are handling their pain and grief in different ways. Jack and his father always try to control the situation to achieve normalcy, but Amber doesn't repress her emotions and wants to overcome the chaos, which she expresses through her drawings. This is an example of how the film truly deals with grief and family in a very powerful situation. It's truly a film worth watching, analyzing, and understanding.

Sin dar mucho spoiler hay una parte de la película con un guión muy corto donde Amber le dice a su hermano: "... cállate, siempre estás hablando y hablando, y gritando órdenes..." Él le dice que trata de ayudarla. Pero Amber le dice que la hace sentir que hay "algo malo en ella" y él le dice que "tal vez si hay algo malo en ella". Con este diálogo tan corto podemos ver que ellos están manejando el dolor y el duelo de diferentes formas, Jack y su padre intentan siempre controlar la situación para lograr la normalidad, pero Amber no reprime sus emociones y quiere atravesar el caos, lo que manifiesta a través de sus dibujos. Este es un ejemplo de cómo la película en realidad trata sobre el duelo y la familia en una situación bastante fuerte, es realmente una película para verla, analizarla y entenderla.

1. The art direction, as I mentioned earlier, since the CGI wasn't the most modern, but it worked perfectly. It's not really a flaw, but rather a bold decision to focus on the central theme. 2. The psychological depth of its characters, daring to explore the emotional complexities and lack of communication that often arise when a family faces tragedy, but doing so in a very digestible way, to say the least.

1- La dirección artística como mencioné anteriormente, ya que el CGI no era el más moderno, pero funcionó perfectamente. En realidad no es un defecto sino una decisión audaz para enfocarse en el tema central. 2- La profundidad psicológica de sus personajes, atreviéndose a explorar las complejidades emocionales y la falta de comunicación que a menudo se presentan cuando una familia enfrenta una tragedia, pero esto lo hacen de una forma muy digerible por decirlo de alguna forma.

1. The film's pacing may feel a bit slow for those expecting a more traditional action movie, especially aimed at children. I think the film is marketed as a fantasy film and should have included a lot more action in that sense. 2. The script, while I mentioned having its moments of important conversations, I think it contained a lot of information in small doses. However, I think it could have been developed a bit more, as it explored such profound themes as tragedy, pain, communication, and grief. 3. I would have liked to see more of the family dynamics before the tragedy.

1- El ritmo de la película puede sentirse algo lento para quienes esperan ver una película de acción más tradicional y sobre todo dirigida a los niños. Creo que la película se vende como una película de fantasía y debió dar mucha más acción en ese sentido. 2- El guión si bien mencioné que tiene sus momentos con conversaciones importantes, creo que tuvo una gran cantidad de información implícita en pequeñas dosis. Sin embargo, creo que pudo haber sido desarrollado un poco más, ya que exploraba temas tan profundos como la tragedia, el dolor, la comunicación y el duelo. 3- Me hubiese gustado ver más de la dinámica familiar antes de la tragedia.
