It’s officially Chobok, the first of Korea’s three “boknal” days!: In the boknal, you're supposed to eat samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) on days like this.
So for lunch, my wife woke up early to prepare a hearty meal at home: nurungji samgyetang, mushroom chicken soup, and a beautiful spread of kimchi varieties.
정말로 초복입니다. 복날엔 삼계탕을 먹는거랬져? 그래서 와이프가 아침부터 집에서 바쁘게 & 열심히 준비한 누룽지 삼계탕과 버섯 닭한마리 그리고 다양한 김치로 초복 점심식사를 마쳤습니다.
After our energy-boosting meal, we headed to Lotte Concert Hall in Jamsil for a Disney OST concert that I had been looking for my little one. She recently started learning the violin, and we thought it might be an inspiring experience for her — so we booked the tickets.
그리고 어린이가 기다리던 잠실 롯데콘서트홀에서 열리는 디즈니 OST 콘서트로 ㄱㄱ. 어린이가 요즘 바이올린을 배우기 시작했는데 어떻게 도움이 될까 싶어서 예매를 해 보았습니다.
Over the past few days, Korea had been hit by relentless rain — as if the sky had opened up. Our hearts go out to those affected by flooding. But today, the skies finally cleared, and we were greeted with bright, beautiful weather. Namsan Tower looked so close, the air was fresh, and the blue summer sky stretched endlessly above. On days like this, just looking up lifts your mood.
며칠 동안 전국에 걸쳐 하늘에 구멍이 난 것처럼 비가 많이 왔습니다. 수해피해를 입으신 분들께 위로를 보냅니다. 그래서인지 비가 그친 오늘은 날씨가 화창하고 하늘은 맑았습니다. 멀리 남산타워도 너무나 선명하게 보이고 하늘도 맑은 여름하늘로 푸르고 높았습니다. 이런 날은 하늘만 봐도 괜히 기분이 좋습니다. 흐흥
We arrived in Jamsil surprisingly quickly, and in the distance, we could see Lotte World Tower — or as I like to call it, “Sauron Tower”
생각보다 빠르게 잠실에 도착했습니다. 저멀리 잠실의 사우론타워 롯데월드타워가 보입니다.
Especially at dusk, it really looks like the Eye of Sauron is watching over the city. Haha.
해 질 녘에 보면 아래와 같이 사우론의 눈이 걸려있는 사우론타워 같습니다. ㅋㅋㅋ
We made it just in time, and as soon as we took our seats, our daughter was captivated by her first-ever live orchestra performance. Seeing her enjoy it so much truly warmed my heart. There are so many other concerts out there — from classical music to Studio Ghibli or Japanese anime — and I’d love to take her to more in the future.
그렇게 아슬아슬하게 on time으로 도착해서 입장을 하니 난생처음 보는 오케스트라 연주에 넉을 놓고 감상하는 어린이. 좋아해 주니 아빠는 그저 뿌듯합니다. 다양한 클래식 콘서트도 많고 지브리나 일본애니 콘서트등도 있어서 앞으로 기회가 되면 더 많은 음악공연을 보여주면 좋겠네요.
Still, it turns out a 2-hour performance was a bit long for a 7-year-old to sit through 😅 There was an intermission, but her attention span definitely had its limit. Haha.
하지만 어린이가 버티기엔 2시간 공연은 조금 길었나 봅니다. 중간 쉬는시간 (인터미션)이 있긴 했지만 7세 어린이의 집중력에는 한계가 찾아 오더군요. ㅋㅋㅋ.
And just like that, we wrapped up our first indoor concert experience as a family. Next time, maybe we’ll watch some related music or videos beforehand — it might help her enjoy the performance even more!
우리 부부가 딸과 함께한 첫 번째 실내 음악회의 기록이었습니다. 다음엔 관련한 음악이나 영상을 함께 보고 간다면 공연을 더 즐겁게 즐길 수도 있을 것 같네요.
