@lordbutterfly and the team at Vibes Web 3 Music Competition have asked us this week to bring a song that identifies with Legendary Movie Soundtracks, and the first thing that came to mind was the movie Limelight, by Charles Chaplin.
That film is partly autobiographical, as it is about an older man who falls in love with a much younger woman, which was the case in Chaplin's real life. Chaplin fell in love with Oona O'Neill, who was 36 years younger than him.
Chaplin composed the music for this song for the film. However, it was an instrumental melody. It was many years later that Brazilian singer-songwriter José Augusto wrote lyrics that pay tribute to that love. He first made the Portuguese version and, seeing its success, decided to make a Spanish version, which became a phenomenon in all Spanish-speaking countries.
Interestingly, most people always thought that another famous Brazilian singer, Roberto Carlos, sang this song, but no, he never recorded it. It has always been José Augusto.
This melody corresponds to the introduction of the film.
This is my entry for the Vibes Web3 Music Competition, week 39. As usual, I am performing it with the accompaniment of the Venezuelan cuatro.

@lordbutterfly y el equipo de Vibes Web 3 Music Competition, nos convocan esta semana a traer una canción que se identifique con Legendary Movie Soundtracks y a mí lo primero que me vino a la mente fue la película Candilejas, de Charles Chaplin**.Esa película tiene una parte de autobiografía, pues se trata de un hombre mayor que se enamora de una mujer mucho más joven, que fue el caso real de su vida. Pues Chaplin se enamoró de Oona O'Neill, quien era 36 años menor que él.
La música de esta canción la compuso Chaplin para la película. Sin embargo, se trataba de una melodía instrumental. Fue muchos años más tarde que el cantautor brasileño José Augusto, le escribió una letra que rinde homenaje a ese amor. Primero hizo la versión en portugués y viendo el éxito que tuvo, decidió hacer la versión en español, con la cual se volvió un fenómeno en todos los países de habla hispana.
Curiosamente, la mayoría de la gente pensó siempre que quien cantaba esta canción era otro famoso de Brasil, como lo es Roberto Carlos, pero no, él nunca la ha grabado. Siempre ha sido José Augusto.
