I recently finished watching Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and loved Himmel's character so I did a fanart. Drawing a character you like for your short comeback feels satisfying as well. While I have the time, I decided that I want to draw him because aside from his good looks, I also liked his personality. (If you haven't watched this I recommend that you should :>)

Illustration Process
Sketch
For warm up, i did a rough sketch of Himmel based on the reference given above. I really like the scene where him and his party were together, talking, and watching the sky.
Line art
In this part, aside from just drawing the lines, I stretched and moved details to achieve the drawing I had in mind.
Grayscale
I haven't done this before but I have seen this type of style in coloring. Coloring, shading, and lighting the character in grayscale then putting color on top of it.
Coloring
In this part, I clipped the color layers on the grayscale layer then either used layer effects like color or overlay. After adding colors to the skin, hair, and clothing, I then proceeded to add details to eyes and mouth.
Background
For the background, I painted a darker blue on the top and a little purple-ish and lighter on the bottom. I also used spray brushes and sparkle brushes to add stars in the sky. (I would probably just stop here but I think the character doesn't blend into the background that much)
Finishing
To blend the character in the background, I did the technique I watched a long time ago. It is picking the color of the upper part of the sky and applying it to the bottom part of the character and vice versa.
The character now blends with the background. I also did some fixing and added glow for additional effects.
I haven't been drawing for a while and I swear every time I got back to drawing I have a different art style. I probably have to be consistent to be able to find my style but that would be impossible since life is unexpected. It was fun and fulfilling, drawing after a long time of break. I had fun.
