Atención Psicológica en FUNDAME / Psychological Care at FUNDAME [Esp-Eng]

FUNDAME is the Autism Foundation of the Esteller Municipality FUNDAME @fundamesteller, its objective is to provide timely care to people with ASD (autisms), guide family members and contribute to raising awareness. Today FUNDAME is a pioneer in the subject of autism in the Esteller Municipality of the State of Portuguesa. Thanks to the support of professionals we can offer psychological, psychopedagogical care, occupational therapy, guidance and some other help in terms of medicines, food and sometimes financial or manage for it, this is possible thanks to the perseverance of a group of mothers with children with autism condition organized and committed to providing that support that they required at some point.

On this occasion, through the TEAsistencia FUNDAME project, the Psychological Day was held on Friday July 19 and Saturday July 20 of this year, continuing care with therapies, report updates, evaluation and consultations.

Fueron dos días continuos de atención súper movilizada y maravillosa, asistieron niños de edad comprendidas de 3 años hasta 13 años, unos acompañados de papá y mamá, otros de sus abuelos. Una jornada mágica, madres que llegaron diciendo es que mi hijo no habla y le preguntamos como que no habla, es que uno le habla y el nada. Lo sorprendente fue que antes de escuchar a la mamá decir eso, ya habíamos conversado con el niño y lo habíamos observado jugar con otro niño de su edad, solo le comentamos si habla, ella no. Al pasar con el especialista la madre le comenta su preocupación de que no habla. Lo sorprendente nuevamente es que efectivamente el niño respondió al psicólogo. Esto se debe a que tendemos a confundir el no hablar con él no expresar, comunicar o responder inmediatamente a la instrucción o pregunta que se le emite al momento al niño. Posiblemente le das muchas instrucciones que a la final no realiza ninguna porque es lógico que no comprendiera. En este caso es recomendable ir de lo simple a lo complejo, hacer preguntas cortas y precisas, de ser posible con opciones. Así como otros niños que según sus madres no habla, otros no para de hablar y otros son súper ordenados. Una mami pregunto que si era normal que su hijo no quisiera ver la televisión que si eso era parte de su hiperactividad, todas quedaron sin palabras, por que el niño desde que llego, llego tranquilo, luego entro en confianza y comenzó a jugar con los niños de su edad de una manera súper alegre. De todo, se pudo observar que todos los niños que llegaron, son niños que solo conviven con adultos y no comparte de manera continua o seguida con niños de su misma edad, por tal motivo cada comentario de sus representantes tenía que ver con el ámbito social. Hoy en día son pocos los padres que mantienen los juegos tradicionales, la mayoría todo lo quiere arreglar con una pantalla, posiblemente se escudan con el trabajo o porque tiene muchas ocupaciones, algo que he aprendido es a tener tiempo para compartir en el hogar y con la familia. Oír a cada padres de su preocupación, me recordaba cada paso por el cual he transitados con mis dos hijos con autismo, sabiendo que cada personas es única y no se compara absolutamente con nadie, mas podemos dar herramienta a otros que las requieren para que aprovechen el tiempo a temprana edad para mejorar muchas cosas en su entorno.

How was the day?

It was two continuous days of super mobilized and wonderful attention, children from 3 to 13 years old attended, some accompanied by dad and mom, others by their grandparents. A magical day, mothers who came saying “my son doesn’t talk” and we asked him why he doesn’t talk, it’s that one talks to him and he doesn’t. The surprising thing was that before hearing the mother say that, we had already talked to the child and had observed him playing with another child of his age, we only asked him if he talks, she didn’t. When he went to the specialist, the mother told him of her concern that he doesn’t talk. The surprising thing again is that the child actually responded to the psychologist. This is because we tend to confuse not talking with him not expressing, communicating or responding immediately to the instruction or question that is given to the child at the time. Possibly you give him many instructions that in the end he doesn’t carry out any because it is logical that he didn’t understand. In this case it is advisable to go from the simple to the complex, ask short and precise questions, if possible with options

Just like other children who, according to their mothers, don't talk, others don't stop talking and others are super tidy. One mother asked if it was normal that her son didn't want to watch television and if that was part of his hyperactivity. Everyone was speechless, because the child arrived calmly, then became more confident and began to play with children his age in a super happy way.

Of all, it could be observed that all the children who arrived are children who only live with adults and do not share continuously or continuously with children of the same age, for this reason each comment from their representatives had to do with the social environment. Nowadays there are few parents who maintain traditional games, most want to fix everything with a screen, possibly they hide behind work or because they have many occupations, something that I have learned is to have time to share at home and with the family.

Hearing each parent's concern reminded me of each step I have taken with my two children with autism, knowing that each person is unique and cannot be compared to anyone else, but we can give tools to others who need them so that they can take advantage of the time at an early age to improve many things in their environment.
