Looking at the bright side

This prompt brings back some memories when I was still in higher education. I can remember vividly that there was a particular statement that was made. I know people from my part of the world will know it. "School na scam." Back then, it was so rampant to the point that I started developing a certain sense that being in school was a scam, and it wasn't worth it.

Often when I come back home from school, my friends who aren't in school yet would be like "you don't know school is a scam" I will just look at them and won't say anything because if I do, something will go wrong and that is likely to affect my friendship with them. So instead of trying to defend myself that school is the best decision I've ever made in my entire lifetime is something I don't have to prove to anyone about.

Certain people from my part of the world aren't educated, and the only thing that they would use to prove and brag about not having that certification is "school is a scam," but for me, school is different. I know the major purpose of having that education is for us to be able to read and write, but then school has a different impact on our lives. It changes the way we think and how we do things.

And not forgetting the connections we get to make. That friendship we keep would lead to something beautiful. So school isn't a scam for me. I know often people tend to say that because after spending so many years in school, I said so many because in my part of the world, something is likely to extend the number of years one spends in school, and often it's always unpredictable, and before you know it. Your four-year course is taking you about six years to round up, and when you finally write that last paper. You become the happiest human on earth.

Because every moment you think of the struggles you went through to attain that certificate and coming out with that degree, people will say Welcome to the labor market and then I ask, "Is it that favorable?" Because after graduation, you will be faced with reality. The reality of job hunting and my nation doesn't always provide the job that is needed for young and fresh graduates to kick-start their careers.

I know it's the situation of things happening in the nation that is making people say that "school is a scam" because after staying in school, you still come out job hunting and then those jobs don't come easily rather you are likely to find a job that will be paying you peanut that won't be able to sustain yourself rather extend to your family. But then you won't complain because it's paying the bills.

In conclusion, I'm saying that school is not a scam, I feel proud of myself being a graduate today, and not just that. Being able to read and write, if I didn't know how to write, I don't think I would be here on Hive. It's the ability to read and write that brought me here to Hive.

Thanks for reading 🧡
